History of the Aeroflot fleet
During the Soviet Union, almost all of the company's aircraft were manufactured in the USSR. All civilian flights and even some military flights were operated by the country's largest airline.
In the 40-50s, Li-2 was used to transport passengers. This aircraft has been produced in the USSR since 1939.
In 1947, the Il-12 and Il-14 were gradually put into operation. An-2 biplanes were also used. This aircraft model was used by Aeroflot for passenger and cargo transportation until the 80s.
From the mid-50s Tu-104, Tu-114 flew. In 1962, the Tu-124 was put into operation, and in 1967, the Tu-134.
Tu-134 aircraft are still used for flights.
For the first time, the company began using foreign aircraft in 1992. Then Aeroflot acquired an AZ10 aircraft. In 1994, the airline added a number of Boeing, Airbus and Douglas DC-10 cargo aircraft to its fleet. Now more than half of the airline's fleet is produced by foreign companies.
All used liners were purchased after 1994 in the Aeroflot fleet. The age of the planes making flights, in most cases, does not exceed 20 years.
Accidents and scandals
Since the 50s, Aeroflot has recorded 127 different accidents and crashes, resulting in 6895 deathsman.
In 1994, an Airbus A310 crashed in Siberia, near Mezhdurechensk. This happened due to the fact that the aircraft commander, turning on the autopilot, put his 15-year-old son in his seat. While the young man sat in his father's seat and "steered", the autopilot somehow turned off. The plane went into a tailspin and crashed. After this incident, security measures on board the company's aircraft were strengthened.
In 1996, when landing at the airport in Turin, Italy, an An-124 Ruslan plane crashed, which Aeroflot had rented from another company. For some reason, the plane hit one of the houses in the village with its wheels and crashed on a farm 5 km from the airport. In that accident, 5 people died and 11 were injured. The company from which Aeroflot then rented the An-124 is still trying to sue compensation for the crashed aircraft.
