Recreation in Lagonaki annually attracts climbers, skiers, rafters, speleologists and just tourists who want to admire the beautiful scenery of alpine meadows! Everyone who finds himself in this area for the first time will be fascinated by the mysterious legend of the unhappy love of Lago and Naka, the shepherd and the princess. Old-timers say that the lovers jumped from the height of the mountain plateau, fleeing the persecution of the formidable prince-father. Places shrouded in a haze of romance always make the traveler's heart beat faster.
Geography of the region
At the junction of the Adygei and Krasnodar regions, at the level of 2000 m, there is the Lagonaki highlands, whose sights are known far beyond the Caucasus. Its highest point is Mount Fisht (2853.9 m), the name in translation means "white-headed". Scientists believe that in the ancient Tethys ocean, it was she who was a coral island. Mountain ranges, alpine massifs and small plateaus are separated from the rest of the Western Caucasus by steep cliffs on almost all sides. On a clear sunny day, Fisht is clearly visible not only from nearby Maikop and Sochi, but also from Krasnodar (the distance is about 135 km in a straight line).
Caves and canyons
High up, to the very alpine meadows, an asph alt road has been laid. It is on it that tourists who want to touch the mystery of Lagonaki get there - the sights are located right next to the highway. First of all, this is the Great Azish Cave. Of the 125 caves hidden in the mountains, it is the most visited because of its convenient location. In 1987, it was equipped on a 220 m long section: electricity was connected, paths, stairs, and fences were built. Another visited cave in the highlands is Gentle, its peculiarity lies in its horizontal location, due to which it has always been inhabited. Convenience for viewing lies in the small size of the cave - 97 m long and 7 m deep. There are many canyons in Lagonaki, but the most accessible of them is the Big Granite Canyon. Located on a section of the Belaya River, it is known for the fact that its walls are lined by nature itself from stone of various shapes and colors. Tourists practically do not visit the remarkable beauty of the canyon of the Tsitse River because of its inaccessibility - you can get there only by water.
Lakes
Until 2012, numerous tourists stayed on the shores of Lake Psenodakh, shaped like a crescent. Translated from the Circassian, the name means "beautiful well". Interestingly, a lake several tens of centimeters deep sometimes forms funnels that are clearly visible through the expanse of crystal water. Currently, tourists are prohibited from approaching the Psenodakh reservoir closer than 400 m: the authorities are concerned about maintaining the natural balanceLagonaki, attractions are strictly protected by law.
Historic Sites
The list of natural wonders of these places seems to be inexhaustible - the map of Lagonaki with sights is literally indented with pointers of interesting places. Interesting places of this region are not limited to miraculous creations. At a height of 633.2 m, there is the Andreevskaya beam and the obelisk to A. Andreev, erected at the site of the battle with the Nazis in 1942. A bridge built by the Cossacks in 1906 spanned the Dakh River. It is also considered an architectural monument. The bridge survived to this day only thanks to the mortar that held the stones together: egg white and milk gave unusual strength to the structure.
The infrastructure of the mountainous region is under development, and this is understandable: many predict a great future for this resort, comparing it with the Alps. Lagonaki, whose sights are so diverse and numerous, is destined to become part of the North Caucasus Resorts project in the near future.
