The airport in the city of Krasnoyarsk is an integral part of air communication in Siberia. The history of its creation is extremely interesting.

Need to build

The need for a modern airfield arose after the start of World War II.

The facility was commissioned in 1942. Three years later, the complex expanded significantly - two runways, hangars, warehouses, garages were built. The evacuated Kharkov Aviation School was also located here. The workshops repaired damaged equipment.

In 1946, the airfield was converted into an airport. An air terminal was built in 1954.

Local lines were served by Il-14 and An-24 aircraft. On the IL-18 it was possible to get to Moscow, Leningrad, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and other large cities.

In the 1970s, the design of a new facility was started. Airport "Krasnoyarsk" was located in the city, in the middle of a dense building and had no room for expansion. The final closure took place in 1987. But until that time, the airport "Krasnoyarsk" has worked very fruitfully for the benefit of the inhabitants of the region. At the time of closure, it could receive the most modern aircraft.

New Airport

The opening of the new facility took place on October 25, 1980. The airport "Krasnoyarsk" received a building with the name "Emelyanovo". The area in which the airport is located has a similar name. It is located twenty-six kilometers from the regional center.

The advanced infrastructure made it possible to receive supersonic Tu-144s. But due to the low profitability of transportation, the IL-86 became the main one in the state.

Recent history

During the transitional period of the early 1990s, the airport went through hard times. But thanks to the well-coordinated work of the team, he was able to continue his activities.

In 1993 the status of "international airport" was received. Krasnoyarsk became one of the first cities in the Russian Federation that could receive foreign ships.

Terminal for relevant traffic was put into operation in 2005

In 2001, a massive runway renovation began, with a complete resurfacing that lasted nearly five years.

In addition, serious measures were taken to build up the material and technical base.

The success of the airport could not go unnoticed. Yemelyanovo becomes a base or hub for major airlines Nord Wind, Taimyr, Pegasus Fly, KrasAvia.

The closest cooperation with international companies in the field of cargo transportation was built with the German company Lufthansa.

In 2012, the airport began servicing Boeing 747 andBoeing 777.

To date, annual passenger traffic has exceeded two million people.

Main domestic destinations: Moscow, Khabarovsk, Sochi, Norilsk, St. Petersburg, Novokuznetsk, Novosibirsk. International: Bangkok, Cam Ranh, Baku, Bishkek, Goa, Beijing.

To maintain the status of one of the most modern airports not only in the Siberian region, but throughout the Russian Federation, activities are constantly being carried out to develop the complex.

In the future, a transport and logistics hub of the corresponding international class will be equipped, the capacity of the cargo terminal will be increased and modern equipment will be provided.

Planned to merge with nearby Cheremshanka Airport, which also has a modern runway.

In general, the measures taken should almost quadruple the capacity of the airport.
