Uglich reservoir is unique in its own way. One of the longest on the Volga, one of the most fishy, one of the most beautiful. Many residents of nearby cities and towns come here to relax every weekend. Catch fish, admire fabulous landscapes, breathe clean air, in short, recharge your batteries for the whole working week. It is wonderful to spend not only Saturday-Sunday, but the whole vacation on the Uglich reservoir, since there are enough recreation centers here. A couple of words about the "birth" of the reservoir

The Uglich reservoir began to be designed before the war in connection with the construction of the hydroelectric power station of the same name. The design level of the Volga water was reached in 1943. At the same time, they forever hid under themselves more than a hundred settlements, about a dozen historical monuments, and unfinished archaeological excavations. Thisthe fact is undoubtedly interesting for lovers of scuba diving, treasure hunters and adventures associated with them. Despite the inconvenience caused, the created reservoir became a gift of fate for this region of the Volga region.

On the Uglich reservoir there are ancient Uglich, Kimry, Kalyazin, whose inhabitants enjoy all its benefits. Thanks to the reservoir, navigation along this segment of the Volga became possible all year round, and not only during floods, as before. Modern tourist bases and boarding houses have grown on its banks, and fishing enterprises have been established. The reservoir is the pride and favorite vacation spot of Russians.

Where is it?

The Uglich reservoir originates in the Yaroslavl region, from a hydroelectric dam near the city of Uglich. Just below the village of Priluki, it flows into the Tver region, passes many small and medium-sized villages, the cities of Kalyazin, Bely Gorodok, Kimry, and through locks and other hydraulic structures near the city of Dubna (Moscow region) passes into the Ivankovskoye reservoir. Thus, the Uglich reservoir looks like a strongly elongated (by 146 km) river channel. Therefore, it is difficult to say unequivocally how many kilometers to it. So, from Moscow to the nearest city on the Uglich reservoir - Kimry - 149 km. From Tver to it - 101 km, from Yaroslavl closest to Uglich - 113 km. Between Uglich and Kimry - 137 km. Kalyazin is located approximately in the middle (54 km from Uglich).

How to get there?

Get here oncar, train and bus. You can also take a boat trip. The nearest airports are in Yaroslavl and Moscow, so flying by plane is not very convenient. Travel time, route number, names of the necessary railway stations depend on the final destination. So, you can get to Uglich by train from Yaroslavl. From Moscow, the path goes through the Savelovo station in Kimry (electric and some passenger trains stop) to Kalyazin, and then to Uglich.

Motorists who are going to organize a holiday at the Uglich reservoir should follow the P104 highway, which will lead from the Russian capital to Kalyazin and Uglich via Sergiev Posad. From Tver to Kalyazin there is a route P86. If you get to rest in Sknyatino, where there is a hunting farm and a boat station, you can use the bus from the railway station in Kalyazin twice a day.

Geographic features

Local residents call the Uglich reservoir the Volga, because in any weather (except thick fog) one can see the other from one of its banks. The width of the reservoir is only at some points - 5 km, and in many places it is much narrower. But its length, equal to 146 km, is impressive. The depths of the Uglich reservoir are different. So, along the bed of the Volga River, they are up to 25 meters, and in some bays they do not exceed even one. The average depth is 5-5.5 meters. Other interesting numbers:

- the total volume of water masses is approximately 1250 cubic meters. km;

- the water level can fluctuate within 7 meters.

Several dozens of rivers and rivulets carry their waters to the Uglich reservoir. The largest are Bear, Nerl, Zhabnya, Dubna, Volnushka, Kashinka, Puksha. The shores of the reservoir are completely cut up by bays of various shapes and sizes. There are several islands on the Uglich reservoir. The entire reservoir is conditionally divided into three parts. The deepest, lower, is located at the dam of the Uglich hydroelectric power station. The upper part (if you look downstream) originates from the dam of the Ivankovsky reservoir to Medveditsa, and the middle part - from this river to the village of Priluki.

Flora and fauna

The nature of the coastal zone of the Uglich reservoir changes throughout its length. So, up to Kimry, the right bank is almost not inhabited. There are no recreation centers here, but you can meet a wild boar or an elk. Opposite these deserted places, a highway runs along the left bank. Further to the White Town itself, the territory of both banks is unusually picturesque. On the left (lower) meadows and flower meadows are replaced by pine forests and deciduous groves, which makes the Uglich reservoir especially beautiful. The right bank is steeper, steeper, but you can also find comfortable beaches here. Beyond Beliy Gorodok, the "possessions" of birch groves, pine forests, and low-lying marshy shores begin.

The flora and fauna of the Uglich reservoir is unusually rich. Here you can meet wild boars, elks, deer, bears, wolves, foxes, raccoons, martens, lynxes, capercaillie,black grouse, partridges, hazel grouses and other feathered and furry representatives of the forest fauna. Reviews indicate that there are a lot of cloudberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, mushrooms.

Hunting

The variety of game makes this region attractive for real hunters. Any specialized base is glad to offer them shelter and service as a huntsman. The Uglich reservoir has many bays overgrown with reeds. According to reviews, it is here that it is best to catch ducks, which nest in such thickets with pleasure. There is also a lot of goose, which is hunted “on the fly”. The only drawback noted by vacationers is that it is difficult to get there without a car.

Farther from the coast, in pine and mixed forests, black grouse, capercaillie, hazel grouse are hunted. At the base "Breeze" every year, in early December, a festival is held among individual hunters and teams. The themes of the festival are driven hunting for elks, wild boars, foxes, hares and birds.

Fishing

Fisher farms annually catch up to 200 tons of different fish in the Uglich reservoir. Approximately the same amount is generally caught by amateur fishermen. Reviews say that earlier there were even more fish here. But even now it is a sin to complain. According to eyewitnesses, there are a lot of predatory fish in the reservoir: perch, pike, burbot, pike perch, asp, ruff, catfish, bersh. They hunt their peaceful counterparts: bream, bleak, carp, silver bream, blue bream, chub, ide, dace, roach, sabrefish, crucian carp, tench, gudgeon and others. Together, both of them - 30 species. Given the huge length of the reservoir, as well as the fact that all types of fish are constantly moving in search of clean, oxygen-rich and food-rich water, you need to take an echo sounder and a navigator for fishing. To maintain the design depth, dredgers are working on the reservoir, pulling out large holes in the ground. For the first couple of years, you can find a lot of forage fish and predatory fish there. Then the water in these pits is mulled and the fish move to new ones. The navigator is needed to enter the coordinates of the fresh holes found there.

Where do you fish?

Every fisherman has his own favorite spots and his own fishing methods. Many experts on the issue advise swimming to the islands, which are rich in the Uglich reservoir. Rest with tents there is especially romantic. No one interferes, there is not a soul around, know, admire nature and catch fish.

Other seasoned take perch (weighing 2 kg or more) near the channels of rivers flowing into the reservoir, and medium in size - in the lower part of the reservoir. In the bays, you can hunt perch all day long. They try to track pike perches near fresh pits and in shallow waters near Kalyazin and Bely Gorodok. Although there are fishermen who catch this predator where the depth is about 12 meters. Everyone has their own baits - vibrotails, jigs, foam rubber, artificial flies. A popular fishing spot is the Sknyatina area. It is good to take bream here near the Volnushki channel, about seven meters from the shore. According to reviews from the dam, you can catch medium-sized perches and pikes. In June there is a lot of bleak, and in August - asp. Fishermen go to the damwinter and summer. In the warm season, tent camps are even set up on the banks of Volnushka.

Relax in comfort

More and more tourists come to the Uglich reservoir. Recreation centers are open all year round. The most popular are "Breeze" 14 km from Uglich, "Yolkino-Perepelkino" near Kimry, "Alexander Island", located really on the island, surrounded by a pine forest. Each of these bases provides different living conditions, but everywhere they try to provide their guests with good fishing and hunting. In "Breeze" housing with all amenities is provided in two-story cottages and a hotel complex. Leisure activities include boating, water skiing, banana boating, and in winter snowmobiling and horse-drawn sleigh rides. Here they organize a bathhouse, karaoke, dance evenings, excursions, those who wish can order the services of a huntsman. In "Yolkino-Perepelkino" rooms with all amenities, quadruple. There is a bathhouse, a linden steam room, a barbecue, a playground for guests. "Alexandrovsky Island" fills the rest with romance.
