Historical background
Initially, Yekaterinburg Airport was called Sverdlovsk. It was formed on the basis of the Koltsovo military airfield in 1943. The terminal building itself was put into operation in 1954. Also during this period, a hotel was built near the airport. Until 1984, only one runway functioned, and after that a second one was built, which made it possible to receive wide-body aircraft.
In 2009, the runway was rebuilt, in the same year a new terminal was built. From now on, the airport can accept all types of airliners. Ekaterinburg Airport began receiving international flights in 1993. Since 2004, it has been among the top ten airports in Russia in terms of air passenger traffic.
Flights
The airport serves both domestic and international flights. Check-in for flights starts at least two hours before the scheduled departure time and closes 40 minutes before. Check-in for international flights opens half an hour earlier than for domestic flights.
45 domestic and foreign air carriers carry out regular passenger flights to Yekaterinburg airport. Among these airlines are those that are members of the international alliances SkyTeam, OneWorld, StarAlliance. During the summerand winter schedules, charter flights also appear. Thanks to this close cooperation, the airport offers passengers more than a hundred destinations throughout the year.
The most popular international destinations are Bishkek, Astana, Dushanbe, Khujand, Osh, Bangkok and Frankfurt. Among Russian destinations, Moscow, Minvody, Novy Urengoy are in demand.
How to get to the airport in Yekaterinburg
The modern modernized structure of Koltsovo allows passengers to get to the airport by all known types of urban transport: taxi, private car, bus, electric train.
High-speed electric trains run from the city to the airport. Express to Koltsovo is the most comfortable and fastest mode of transport. The length of the route is 21 km. The train makes 9 stops along the route. The total travel time of the electric train is 40 minutes. Express runs only four times a day: 4.16, 6.58, 17.03 and 19.10.
You can also get to the airport by regular buses from major cities of the Sverdlovsk region. They arrive at terminal A.
From Yekaterinburg to the airport, bus number 1 runs daily, as well as fixed-route taxis 26 and 39.
By private car you can drive along the Novokoltsovskoye highway. The length of the route will be 11 km from the city of Yekaterinburg. There is paid parking near the airport terminal, it is designed for 460 cars.
Also, passengers can take a taxi. Its average price will be 500 rubles.
