Sverdlovsky district of Irkutsk - microdistricts and their infrastructure

The largest district of Irkutsk is Sverdlovsky. The district was formed in 1944. However, in 1953 the territorial unit was abolished, and in June 1954 it was re-formed. As of the beginning of 2017, 205 thousand people live in the district.

Earlier, the Sverdlovsky district of Irkutsk was the village of Glazkovo. The district included several more settlements: the village of Kuzmikha, the village of Glazkovo, Melnikovo and Sinyushina Gora.

The first inhabitants of this area are mentioned by N. Sappharius in 1675. And at the end of the 18th century, Mogilev Kuzma founded a village here. Then Glazkov Efim appeared in the settlement, in all likelihood, the village was named after him. Both surnames are still the most common in the area.

Today there are many industrial enterprises, educational and scientific institutions on the territory. The Sverdlovsky district of the city of Irkutsk includes 15 microdistricts.

Akademgorodok

The village is actually located in the center of the left-bank part of the city on the banks of the Angara River. Nearby is the Irkutsk National Research Technical University and buildings of some faculties.

The main street of the neighborhood is the onlyconnecting road with other parts of the region. A huge number of researchers, candidates of sciences and doctors live here. There are about 30% of graduate students here.

There is a museum on the territory of Academgorodok, the main purpose of which is to popularize science among the masses. In the museum you can watch how the experiments are carried out, and even participate in some.

The microdistrict is famous for research institutes and other research institutions:

• institute for the study of the earth's crust;
• Institute of Geochemistry and Geology;
• Institute for the Study of Solar-Terrestrial Physics and a number of others.

Akademgorodok is famous for Dendropark and a national-scale installation - a solar radio telescope.

Despite the intelligent composition of the local population, it was here that several armed attacks took place, which ended in the deaths of several people. Anufriev A. and Lytkin N. were convicted for the crimes, and there was a lot of information about it in the local media.

May Day

One of the youngest neighborhoods in the city. The development project for this part of the Sverdlovsk district of Irkutsk was carried out by local architects from 1970 to 1990. In parallel, development was carried out, so the buildings have different space-planning solutions. At the same time, it is a compact neighborhood with a developed infrastructure and an established public transport network.

Sinyushina Gora

One of the largest micro-districts of the Sverdlovsk region of Irkutsk on the left bank of the Angara river. The unofficial name of the village is Sinyushka.

The M55 and AN6 highway runs here, so the roads are always overloaded. The microdistrict has the largest railway station of Kaya, several large industrial enterprises, shopping malls and cinemas.

University

The microdistrict project was developed in 1987, it was planned as part of the Pervomaisky settlement, therefore it has a common architectural concept with it.

Due to geographical features (difficult terrain with a natural slope of 28%), the building was carried out in a terraced way, with many props, stairs and fortifications. Therefore, the access of cars to many houses is difficult. There are five- and nine-story buildings in the microdistrict.

Anniversary

The development of the microdistrict was carried out from 1960 to 1990. The project involved the unification of several settlements for the residence of hydroelectric workers. There is a hospital for WWII veterans on the territory. Here are nine-story houses erected without a special concept. On the outskirts of the microdistrict there are summer cottages and forests.

Markets of the area

There are several markets in the Sverdlovsk district of Irkutsk:

TSK "Sverdlovsky", Tereshkova street, 24	With 100 years of history, the main focus is livestock and agricultural products. Only here in Irkutsk you can buy live pets (chickens, goats and piglets). There are rows with industrial goods, books, spare parts.
"Yuzhny", Akademicheskaya, 27	Opened only in 2000, the main trade is food.
Wholesale, Radio Factory District	Exists since 1980
Wholesale, Birch Grove, 64	The main direction is food and groceries, Chinese things.
Shopping center "Ruchey", Ryabikov boulevard, 32	Similar in format to the Central Bazaar, but smaller in size.

Industrial facilities and new buildings

One of the largest enterprises in the city of Irkutsk in the Sverdlovsk region is located on Sukhe-Bator Street, 3. The output power is 660 thousand kW. The object was built since 1950 for 8 years. The hydroelectric dam unites the Sverdlovsk and Oktyabrsky districts.

In the Sverdlovsk district of Irkutsk, on Ryabikova Street, 67, the Novo-Irkutsk CHPP is located, providing the entire city with heat, it covers the electrical loads of the energy system.

The second largest cold storage facility in the Urals and the Far East is located in the Sverdlovsk district of the city of Irkutsk. The enterprise was built in two stages, in 1954 and 1959. In 1961, the third stage of construction was launched. The Oil and Fat Plant has also been operating since 1951.
