Ekaterinburg Metro is the last metro in the Soviet Union, opened in 1991. This is the sixth metro in Russia, which is the only one in the entire Ural region.
History of the Yekaterinburg Metro
The construction of the Sverdlovsk metro began back in 1980. Only 11 years later, the metro opened its doors to the first passengers. Then it included only three stations. Already in 1992, a new station was opened, and two years later, two more. The next three stations were opened in 2002, 2011 and 2012. Today, the Yekaterinburg metro has nine stations on one line with a length of 12.7 kilometers.
