Arriving in any country, you always want to see the capital, because it is still the main city, the face of the state. Slovenia, Ljubljana… Having heard only the name, I want to go there.
Petite Beauty
The city is located at the foothills of the Julian Alps, on the banks of the Ljubljanica River. It is located at an altitude of 296 meters above sea level. Many of the Russians imagine this city as gray, ordinary and far from civilization. It's not like that at all. Ljubljana, Slovenia, photo of which is presented on the right, intrigues with its picturesque and miniature beauty, and therefore the city is often referred to as "Little Prague".
Attractions
The capital of the Republic of Slovenia - Ljubljana is a small, cozy and real Slavic city. The river divides the settlement into two parts: the New Town on the left bank and the Old Town on the right.
It is customary to walk around Ljubljana, since city vehicles are not allowed on the Old Town Square and on many streets. The right bank is a cluster of attractions. Here it is interesting to see the castle of Ljubljana Castle, which was founded at the turn of the 5th-6th centuries and then rebuilt, giving it a new baroque style, in the 17century. The masonry of the castle still contains fragments of Illyrian, Celtic and ancient Roman structures. The panoramic platform of the castle is the best place to view the entire capital from above. In addition, Slovenia, Ljubljana in particular, is famous for Prešeren Square, where the Franciscan church of the 17th century is located. Its facade is made in the Baroque style. The covered city market is another place worth visiting.
The most central part of the capital is Tromostovje or three pedestrian bridges decorated with dragons and passing through the river Ljubljanica. Ljubljana is especially beautiful in the evening - an endless variety of cozy cafes and restaurants, bars and discos. Even despite the many years spent under the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the city retained its unique flavor and atmosphere, remained truly Slavic.
Hotels
The city of Ljubljana (Slovenia) has hotels of absolutely all categories - from hostels to solid "fives". Prices vary accordingly from 20 to 150 euros per night. Most hotels offer breakfast, there is a half board option.
Kitchen and restaurants
Slovenia, Ljubljana in particular, will offer you to try the real Slovenian cuisine. Try the local bread and soups: sour yuha - pork, cevapcici - with sausages, vipavska iota - sauerkraut soup, ribbi brodet - ear. It is interesting to try dumplings, stuffed peppers, buckwheat porridge, pork sausages with horseradish and onions. And, of course, we must not forget about wine, because it is known all over the world.
Shopping
Anyone who goes shopping here will not be disappointed, because here you can buy quality clothes from various designers, including Slovenian ones. Many interesting souvenirs, dishes and antiques are sold in Ljubljana. Most of the shops are located in the northern part of the city. One of the largest shopping centers in Europe, BTC City, is also located here. In the covered market, you can buy vegetables, spices, fruits and, of course, Slovenian delicacies. For those who love painting, we recommend visiting the galleries located in the city center. There you can buy reproductions of famous paintings. Have a magical trip!
