Eagle Airport is located six kilometers from the city center of the same name. The above transport infrastructure facility has a fairly large runway, which is a landing site for aircraft weighing almost a hundred tons.
A bit of history
Eagle airport began to operate in 1909, when an airplane with cargo was sent from it. Four years after the establishment of Soviet power in Russia, an air station was created, which became a link between the cities of Orel and Moscow.
In 1923, the route was expanded to Ukrainian Kharkov. From that moment on, the terminal began to function in full force. Additional airliners were purchased and put on the balance sheet of the transport company.
Airport Upgrading Experiment
In 1998, Orel Airport became attractive to investors. One of the commercial structures expressed a desire to modernize the terminal building and the runway. After the renovation, the lastbecame longer, which made it possible to raise the status of the transport infrastructure facility.
Eagle Airport has been renovated for several years, and only at the end of 1999 was a solemn event dedicated to its opening.
It should be noted that after the investor canceled the contract in 2004, the terminal's financial situation began to deteriorate.
Today, a sad picture opens up for those who decide to come to the city of Orel: the airport of the same name barely works (only one dispatch service to track flights). In the spring of 2011, this facility became an integral part of the state program, which provides for the reconstruction of large aviation hubs.
What are the airport's future prospects?
At the same time, officials of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia later reported that the allocation of appropriations from the state treasury for the repair of the airport in the city of Orel does not mean at all that it will be operated at full capacity, since there is no operator and base carrier in the region. In this regard, the federal authorities recommended their colleagues from the region to focus on other options for transport communication. After all, it will take another ten years before the financial situation of the airport improves, and only then will the company be able to become competitive.
As arguments for making such an "unpopular" decision, the federal authorities cited the fact that the work to modernize the airportwill cost more than three billion rubles. Its annual maintenance will require approximately two hundred million rubles a year. Of course, the regional budget "will not pull" such a burden.
Experts are sure that the only way out of the created situation is to search for a large investor who, together with the state, will seriously modernize the Orel airport.
The flight schedule today confirms the fact that the company can be helped to “get out” of the financial crisis. So, for example, routes within the country will be saved: Surgut, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, Sochi, Anapa, St. Petersburg. You can also fly outside your home state: Dusseldorf, Hannover, Sharm el-Sheikh, Dubai, Bangkok.
