General reconstruction

In the morning and afternoon, professional athletes trained at the rink, and in the evening the rink was opened for ordinary people who wanted to ride. For a long time it was here that the main hockey matches in the USSR were held. Each game drew thousands of spectators.

In 1973, the capital hosted the Summer Universiade. In this regard, the premises decided to reconstruct. A roof was installed over the rink. Since the opening, the complex has turned into the Sokolniki Sports Palace.

In 1975, the management decided to include this institution in the list of venues that will host competitions at the 1980 Olympics. The complex has been under renovation for two years. During this time, a five-story building was built under the already installed roof. It had administrative, economic and public premises. New stands have been installed. Locker rooms, coaching rooms, bars, restaurants, shops, game rooms and press centers have also appeared.

New breath

At the same time, two electronic scoreboards were installed. Another novelty was a separate training rink, covered with glass and metal. It was connected by an underground passage to the main arena. At the Olympics, the Sokolniki Sports Palace received a very high rating from both domestic and foreign experts. The photo and layout of the complex became a modelfor other structures.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, many objects were destroyed. Training halls were turned into commercial enterprises. But this Moscow skating rink was lucky to continue working as intended.

Until 2001, the complex was pretty old and required a colossal repair. It was then that the institution was taken under the wing of the Spartak Team Support Fund. At their expense, equipment was replaced, new cooling machines were installed, playgrounds were improved, and utility and administrative premises were reconstructed. In fact, the Sokolniki Sports Palace has received a new face.
