The construction of the terminal building began in 1955. Then the airport was able to serve a small passenger flow - only 50 people for an hour. In the 70s, a new airport building was built, which made it possible to serve up to 400 passengers per hour. The air hub provided communication between Ulyanovsk and all major cities of the USSR.
