Historical background
Makhachkala Airport has a very difficult history of creation. The city in its modern form began to be built from the village of Pervukha. And it was on its territory that the airfield was originally built. This happened back in 1927. And the task of this heavenly path was the communication between Moscow, Kharkov, Rostov and Tiflis.
The airfield and its service structures have evolved along withthe needs of the country and population. The sphere of activity of air transport, based on it, expanded. If initially the transportation of goods and assistance to agriculture prevailed, then over time the passenger traffic also increased.
In 1958, the airfield received a new location and name - the Uytash airport. It is located quite far from Makhachkala, more than 16 kilometers. The city of Kaspiysk is closest to it, only 4.5 km away. Over the next couple of years, passenger transportation tripled, and freight transportation quadrupled. There was a technical possibility of performing a large number of various domestic flights. Since 1993, international communication has also been opened. The port was named after the twice Hero of the Soviet Union pilot Ahmet Khan Sultan.
Airport Upgrade
In 2014 there was a change of ownership. Official name - JSC "International Airport "Makhachkala"".
A number of reconstruction works are currently underway. The runways have been expanded and upgraded. The construction of the terminal complex for international flights has begun. All these measures contributed to the fact that it became possible to receive large aircraft and helicopters of all types. The air gates are open to many directions.
