Excavations show that already the ancient Celts buried their dead relatives. The Egyptians at one time created entire cities for burial - necropolises. Currently, there are various types of burials: mafia cemeteries, underwater burials, celebrity resting places, pet burial grounds. It turns out that some old and even new cars also end up in a kind of cemetery. Let's talk about them in more detail.
How does a car graveyard appear?
It would seem that the most logical thing is to sell the battered "iron horse" or, if there are no people willing, to dismantle it for spare parts. However, this often does not happen. At first, the hand does not rise to the "faithful comrade", and then the rust does not allow you to benefit from him. This is how junkyards of old cars appear.
Car graveyard can be found:
- in the forest;
- in the village;
- in buildings abandoned by people (old hospitals, children's camps);
- in abandoned parking lots.
Usually, the territory becomes a place of burial of a car by accident. For example, there wassmall business owner. He bought old cars for nothing, dismantled them for parts and sold them. Then the businessman died, and none of his relatives took up his case.
Sometimes, in order not to waste parking space or pay for parking, the owners themselves take their used cars to the forest or village and leave them there forever.
Currently, there are entire necropolises of unsold cars. Absolutely new cars that left the factory, but did not find owners, spend their lives there.
Abandoned cars abroad
It is believed that the first car cemetery appeared in the United States in the 30s of the last century. True, at first it was not a dumping of old cars, but a small business of the Lewis family. The elder Lewis bought old cars and sold them for parts. In the 72nd year, the father of the family died, and no one picked up his "relay baton".
Now in the state of Georgia, under the scorching sun, about 5 thousand useless cars, trucks, office vehicles, as well as tractors and school buses are rusting. The area of the cemetery is almost 140 thousand square meters.
Another car cemetery is located in Oregon. Old cars gather dust near the central airport of the city of Eugene. It was once a Scot and Suns vehicle. The office was engaged in the evacuation of "iron horses". The company went bankrupt in 2005. It was not possible to quickly sell the car, so a cemetery was formed.
Currentlycar dump time is in Sweden, Belgium, England, France. There is a graveyard of old trains in Bolivia. Ukraine is infamous for the remains of Chernobyl equipment.
All countries treat this phenomenon differently. Some, like the Americans, turn automobile necropolises into museums with paid admission, while other countries, such as Switzerland, destroy the burial places of rusting retro horses.
How do "iron horses" survive in Russia?
When talking about a car graveyard in Russia, most often they mean just a junkyard of old equipment that was accidentally discovered in the suburbs in the forest, or dozens of rusting cars that have been standing on the sides of country roads for years.
However, there are more or less official car dumps. For example, a car cemetery in Moscow. The capital is distinguished by the presence of a thematic museum. It is believed that any visitor to the Mosgortrans site can see how old public cars live out their lives: trolleybuses, trams and buses. However, according to eyewitnesses, visitors are not allowed there. And no one follows retro horses.
Another “burial” of a car can be found near Sheremetyevo Airport. In the suburbs, collapsing cars rust in an abandoned factory. At the same time, officially, almost every abandoned car has an owner.
Cemetery of unsold cars
Cars that never had owners were even less fortunate. About 90 million cars are produced annually in the world, but not allcreated to be ridden. Some of the exhibits almost immediately end up in the cemetery of new cars.
Whole necropolises of unsold cars are popping up in major cities around the world. For example, in different cities near the Nissan plant there are cemeteries of cars that have not found their owners.
New cars rust in the large Swindon car park in England, about 60,000 cars are waiting for their owners in Maryland. Citroens gather dust in England, Toyotas in California, Fords in Detroit. Even powerful Land Rovers can't get away from Liverpool.
Thousands of cars from Europe and the USA are parked at St. Petersburg airport. All these cars are waiting for the owners. But there are no people who want to. On the one hand, it seems, if the car dealers lower the price, and the owners would be found. But plant managers would never take that risk, because otherwise all car prices would plummet. So the dumps of new "iron horses" appear.
