The current Petrozavodsk is a city located in the northwestern part of the Russian Federation. It is the capital of the Republic of Karelia, as well as the largest city in the Prionezhsky region on the shores of Lake Onega. In this regard, there was a need to build an airport capable of meeting the transport needs of a growing city. Since 1939, Petrozavodsk airport Besovets has become exactly such.
About the airport
Petrozavodsk Airport is both civilian and military - it acts as a military base of the Air Force of the Russian Federation. This is evidenced by the level of "joint-based airfield" assigned to it in 1995 for the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
The airport is located twelve kilometers from the capital of Karelia, not far from the village of Besovets, for which it received its name.
The main carrier of Besovets Airport is S7 Airlines, which operates regular flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as to other cities, countries, both with and without transfers. There are also flights to the resort cities of Russia. Air flights from Besovets airport to Simferopol are carried out every day, except Wednesday and Saturday, with an approximatetravel time is a little more than 17 hours, including transfers.
In 2015, the airport underwent modernization, during which the area of the runway was increased by a quarter, more than five hundred plates for the airfield were replaced, drainage and treatment systems, power supply, lighting and communications networks were updated. In the near future, the airport management plans to restore the second terminal for international flights to Finland, the city of Helsinki, as well as upgrade the airport category according to the international ICAO standard. The airport will receive modern international communication and navigation systems, additional aprons for receiving and parking passenger aircraft. This will increase the passenger flow of the current civil airport.
Besovets Airport is capable of receiving aircraft such as Il-76T, Il-114, Tu-134, An-12, Sukhoi Superjet 100, aircraft of lighter classes, as well as helicopters of absolutely any type.
Services
Guests of Besovets airport can relax in a spacious waiting room, use the services of a VIP-hall, a buffet. There are places to buy tickets, a medical center, a mother and child room, and a Russian Post office.
How to get to Besovets airport?
Location of the transport hub is its main advantage for Petrozavodsk. In fact, you can get to it by taxi or by private transport, however, the proximity to the city, as well as to the village of Besovets, allows you to reach it in a matter of minutes along the federal highway E105 in the directioncity of Murmansk.
Also, the airport can be reached from Petrozavodsk by bus number 100 "Petrozavodsk - Airport - Garrison Besovets", which operates daily with flights twice a day in both directions. The fare is 48 rubles, and the travel time is forty minutes.
The transport location in conjunction with the size of the airport allows us to define it as a cozy and comfortable air complex, which can easily meet the client's need for a flight to another city in Russia or in the near future to a foreign country.
