Talagi Airport is a large international airport located in the north of Russia near Arkhangelsk. It was founded back in the 60s of the XX century.
Historical background
Talagi Airport was named after the settlement of the same name in the Arkhangelsk region, next to which it is located. The history of its foundation is directly related to the development of northern aviation.
The airport was built in the winter of 1963 by military builders who laid an artificial concrete runway here. The first accepted aircraft was the domestic aircraft Il-18, which landed here on February 5. The aircraft carried out a technical flight from Moscow to Arkhangelsk. This date is considered the birthday of the airport. From February 25, planes to Leningrad and Moscow begin to fly from Talaga daily. In November 1964, the airport complex began to operate. Since 1966, maintenance of the An-24 aircraft began. By 1974, the air fleet was replenished with Yak-40, Tu-134 aircraft and Mi-6 and Mi-8 helicopters.
In 1973, the Civil Aviation Authority was established on the basis of the airport. The geography of the routes included more than 60 settlements of the USSR and allied states. In 1978, the passenger traffic amounted to more than 1.5 millionhuman. In 1991, the Arkhangelsk squadron operated almost all types of aircraft and helicopters, with the exception of the IL-86 and IL-62. In 1991, Talagi Airport became an independent organization.
Since 1998, air unit No. 89 of the Air Defense Corps No. 21 has been based here. It includes Mi-8, MTV-1 and An-26 aircraft.
In 2009, Talagi received permission to service modern airbuses "A-320" and "A-319".
Development of the air hub at the present stage
At the end of August 2011, planned work began on the reconstruction of the airport complex. Two pedestrian galleries and two air bridges were put into operation already in 2015. Due to this, passengers began to board the board without leaving the platform. Baggage claim will now be made on the ground floor of the terminal. Other airports in Russia, located in the North, do not have air bridges, unlike Talaga. Funds for the reconstruction were allocated by the airport management. In autumn 2015, the construction of a new terminal complex began, with an area of over 2,000 m2. After the construction of the terminal, the airfield complex will be reconstructed. The drainage system will be improved. Such work has not been carried out here for more than half a century.

Travel Reviews
Passengers departing from Talaga note that the reconstruction has benefited the airport - infrastructure has improved, free parking, Wi-Fi, souvenir shops have opened. However, there are some things to work on:
- speed of passenger service;
- discrepancy between bus departure times and the current schedule;
- old chairs in the waiting room;
- purity;
- foreign smells in the terminal building;
- no smoking rooms.
Talagi Airport is one of the few transport hubs in the European North of Russia. Passengers note that the structure of the airport complex is imperfect. But the reason for this is the fact thatwork on the modernization of the terminal and airfield began to be carried out only in 2011.
