Smolenskaya embankment of the Moskva River is a section between Krasnopresnenskaya and Rostovskaya embankments. In 2017, the area was landscaped under the My Street program. As a result, a walking area was formed, which, in addition to several embankments, included Smolenskaya.

Why Smolenskaya embankment?

It appeared in the 19th century, but the main development took place in the middle of the past. These are solid, “Stalinist” houses, elite housing, expensive restaurants and offices. For example, a house for employees of the People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR. It was built in 1940 by architect Shchusev.

There is a residential building here, built for the USSR Ministry of Geology, there is also for the generals of the Soviet army. Not so long agotenement, twelve-story, general's house, built in the middle of the last century, was included in the list of objects of cultural values of a regional scale. Architects under the leadership of Barkhin completed it in the style of the "Stalinist" Empire style.

Very close, on Smolenskaya Square, stands one of Moscow's skyscrapers - the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The nearest metro station is also Smolenskaya. That is, the name of the embankment is not at all surprising. It was given its name by the Smolenskaya street passing here.

Interesting objects on the embankment

Views from the embankment are beautiful, majestic, but far from romantic. Here you can admire the city and be proud of it. On the other side of the river there is another attraction of the city - the hotel "Ukraine". It takes 30 minutes to walk to the Moscow City skyscrapers, but they are perfectly visible from the Smolenskaya embankment. Although they can be seen almost everywhere. The river is very decorated with the pedestrian Bohdan Khmelnitsky and Borodinsky bridges, and on the other side - Kyiv railway station and Europe Square.

At the beginning of the 21st century, a new, modern building of the British Embassy appeared on the embankment. And so that Muscovites would not be mistaken about the ownership of the building, a little later a monument was erected here to the most famous Englishmen in Russia - Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Accidentally or intentionally, but by the will of the author A. Orlov, the great detective and his friend outwardly have a striking resemblance to the artists Vasily Livanov and Vitaly Solomin. The monument was created for the 120th anniversary of the publication of the first book aboutSherlock Holmes.

On the Smolenskaya embankment in Moscow, passers-by are rarely seen walking at a walking pace. It is rather a business center, and therefore everyone is in a hurry. The films "Man from Nowhere" and "Envy of the Gods" are associated with the hotel "Ukraine".
