The Natural Science Museum of Hygiene, established in 1919 in St. Petersburg, was founded with the aim of educating the population about he alth. At that time, ordinary people in Russia, not connected with medicine, were far from fully aware of the necessary human hygiene measures, non-compliance with which could lead to various diseases. Today, its exhibits also serve the noble purpose of promoting a he althy lifestyle. After all, is it easier to explain to a person the harmful effects of bad habits on the body than by a good example?
These illustrative examples in the form of exhibits of various images and variations were collected under the roof of the Museum of Hygiene. St. Petersburg has always been famous for its progressiveness, ahead of its time. This museum is another proof of that. After all, its hundred-year-old exhibits, which belonged to famous medical scientists and doctors of that time or were developed by them, amaze the imagination of modern man so much that many of them give up any bad habits after visitingthis establishment.
Most of the exhibits that the Museum of Hygiene offers to the attention of visitors are devoted to the prevention of various diseases and personal hygiene. It is especially important to convey such information to the younger generation, so the museum has been a must-see place for schoolchildren and students to visit for many years. School trips are held almost daily, but there are also plenty of adults who want to visit this place.
Many exhibits can scare not only children, but also women and men. For example, a dental chair and centuries-old “forgotten” appliances next to it look so intimidating that it automatically instills a good habit of brushing your teeth twice a day.
But among the exhibits, which, as a rule, evoke not very pleasant associations, there are those that make you smile. For example, plasticine worms on models of teeth or human teeth with sad eyes embedded.
It is much more interesting not just to visit the Museum of Hygiene, but also to listen to an experienced doctor-guide who knows everything not only about the exhibits, but also about most of the diseases depicting them. You can book a tour by phone. For groups of up to five people, it will cost only 400 rubles. Its duration is exactly one hour. But if you want to get acquainted with the exhibits of the museum on your own, you can visit it on any weekday from 10.00 to 18.00. On Saturday, the Museum of Hygiene opens an hour later, and onSunday closed for holiday. The cost of tickets for adults (without a guide) is 80 rubles, a ticket for children is 50 rubles.
It should be noted that the Museum of Hygiene (St. Petersburg) is not the only one of its kind. A similar museum was created in 1927-1930. in Dresden (Germany). It also exists to this day and offers its visitors a permanent thematic exhibition "Man - Body - He alth". Other specialized exhibitions on topical topics in the field of human science are also held there from time to time.
