Embankment, Y alta, Crimea… These three words have been associated with fun, relaxation and carefree walks for decades. Y alta embankment is not just a tourist attraction. This is a kind of symbol of the city and the entire Southshore.

Lenin Embankment (Y alta) and its history

The Lenin Embankment is one of the oldest streets in the city. Today it is very difficult to imagine it without palm trees, attractions and endless bars, cafes and elite restaurants.

Embankment (Y alta) is the center of the resort life of the entire Crimean South Coast. In the middle of the 19th century, it was of interest only to local fishermen. When Y alta began to gain popularity as a resort, it began to be actively landscaped. In particular, a wonderful embankment was designed near the sea.

Y alta meanwhile began to develop rapidly. The local embankment was strengthened and decorated with red granite and porphyrite. Increasingly, one could meet aristocrats and famous cultural figures of the Russian Empire on it. The embankment was protected by beautiful forged railings that imitated the side of a ship. The author of this project was the engineer A. L. Berthier-Delagard.

In 1960, to protect against storms and sea waves, the Y alta embankment was strengthened with an additional step.

The total length of the embankment in Y alta is one kilometer. This is a favorite place for tourists and vacationers to walk. Here you get great photos, thanks to the beautiful design of the embankment and wonderful panoramas. Yesenin, Bunin, Nekrasov, Chekhov and Gorky were very fond of walking along this Y alta street. These days, it's home to some of the city's best restaurants.

On one side of the embankment - a restless sea, on the other - a green "wall" of palm trees and other subtropical plants.

Y alta embankment is often found in works of culture: in books, films, on canvases. So, the most striking examples are Anton Chekhov's story "The Lady with the Dog", as well as the film "Assa".

Sights of the Y alta embankment

Embankment (Y alta) is a whole complex of tourist attractions. Among them, the following should be highlighted:

monument to V. I. Lenin;
Roffe baths;
the building of the hotel "Tavrida";
19th century lighthouse (still in operation);
chapel of the New Martyrs;
concert hall "Jubilee"
Sycamore Isadora Duncan and others.

There are many memorial plaques on the waterfront buildings in honor of many famous personalities. a lot here andinteresting sculptures. This, for example, Shirvindt's pipe, Zhvanetsky's briefcase or Joseph Kobzon's muse.

Roffe Baths

Many interesting sights can be offered to tourists by the city embankment. Y alta is not only the sea and mountains, dozens of architectural monuments have been preserved in the city.

The Roffe Baths were part of the France Hotel complex, built in 1897 by the merchant A. Roffe. The chic building has recently been renovated. The main entrance to the baths is decorated with a chic Moorish-style marble portal. On the front facade of the building there is a phrase from the Koran: "Be blessed like water."

The intelligentsia and the aristocracy loved to spend their free time in the baths of Y alta. So, Chekhov and Bunin, Gorky and Chaliapin basked in the local baths. Interestingly, in the Soviet years, the most beautiful building was planned to be demolished. Roffe saved from the death of the baths … Sofia Rotaru. It was she who defended the monument and drew public attention to the incident.

In the early 2000s, the building was overhauled. Today it can be visited at: Lenin Embankment, 31.

Monument to Lenin and Isadora's plane tree

The monument to the leader of the world proletariat - V. I. Ulyanov - looks very exotic, surrounded by palms and cedars. In addition, it is one of the most expensive monuments to Lenin in the world. The bronze statue rises on a monolithic red marble pedestal. The opening of this monument took place in 1954. The author of the project was the architect A. S. Fomin.

The plane tree of Isadora Duncan is another famous landmark of the Y alta embankment. The age of this tree is solid - at least 170 years. According to legend, it was under this plane tree that the poet Sergei Yesenin and the American dancer Isadora Duncan met. However, there is no confirmation of this fact, alas.
