The cities of Kharkiv and Lugansk are major political and socially significant settlements in Ukraine. Many residents and guests of the country are faced with the task of how to get from one city to another.
Cities of Luhansk and Kharkiv: the importance of settlements
The city of Luhansk is a rather important object of Ukraine. It is located in the east of the country, not far from the Russian border. Its population in the pre-war period was more than 400 thousand people. Recently, due to hostilities in the country, an accurate count of the inhabitants is not possible. Many socially significant objects were destroyed in the city, including the international airport. You can only get to other cities by car, bus or train.
North-west of it is the city of Kharkiv - the largest administrative, industrial, scientific and socially significant settlement in Ukraine. Its population is almost one and a half million people. The city has a multifunctional transport interchange in all directions - highways, metro, railway and international airport.
Lugansk - Kharkiv: distance and transport options
You can overcome the distance between the cities of Luhansk and Kharkiv by car orbus. The length of the route directly will be 273 kilometers. If you go by car, then the distance along the highway will be 332 kilometers. In connection with military operations on the territory of Ukraine, the route through Russia has recently been in great demand. In this case, the path will be longer, the distance will be about 800 kilometers. However, many choose this option, as it is currently considered the safest route. Unfortunately, due to the tense political situation in the country, the movement of passenger trains through the Lugansk station is not carried out.
Trains run, but only in suburban traffic. Before the outbreak of hostilities, the Kharkiv-Lugansk train route passed through the stations of Deb altsevo, Gorlovka, Makeevka, Sinelnikovo and others. Travel time, depending on the train number, ranged from 10 to 12 hours. Now you can get from one city to another only by road.
Drive a car

Taking into account delays due to traffic jams, food and personal needs, you will spend about seven hours on the road. Due to the unstable political situation in the areas through which the highway passes, various force majeure and emergency situations are possible. Be sure to take into account all possible circumstances before traveling, because travel time can stretch up to an indefinite period. On average, fuel costs will be about 1200 rubles or 585 hryvnias when traveling bypassenger car. If you decide to drive a truck or SUV, then fuel consumption will increase at least twice and will depend on the characteristics of the vehicle.
Bus on route
The bus route through Russia is very popular. This path is relatively safe and predictable. The route passes through Krasnodon, then the bus crosses the Russian border and moves north through the settlements of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Zavodskoy, Tarasovsky, Grai-Voronets towards Boguchar. From there, the path runs through Pisarevka, Alekseevka, Novy Oskol towards Belgorod. Then the bus crosses the state border and arrives in Kharkiv.
Seats on the bus can be booked in advance by telephone numbers of transport companies. Buses run daily, there are several flights a day. Tickets can be purchased not only in Lugansk or Kharkiv, but also in other settlements of Ukraine. The fare is about 1,500 rubles or 732 hryvnia.
