Speaking about the sights of Moscow, first of all, many people remember museums and other cultural institutions, then parks and squares. But this is not entirely fair, in the capital of Russia there are many other interesting objects available for visiting, for example, architectural ones. And we are talking not only about old mansions, not all tourists know, for example, about the bridge of Bogdan Khmelnitsky. What is this attraction and why is it interesting for visitors?
Krasnoluzhsky bridge in Moscow
In 1905, construction began on a new railway bridge near the Luzhniki Stadium. In 1907, all work was completed, and the new design was solemnly put into operation. The bridge was named Krasnoluzhsky and for many years was included in the railway network. During the construction of the Third Transport Ring, a significant reconstruction of the structure was carried out, or rather, its almost complete restructuring. In the course of workdismantled the main supporting structure - the arch - and moved it along the river to the area of the Kyiv railway station. This is how the sight of the beginning of the 20th century was saved in the capital and a new pedestrian bridge appeared - the bridge of Bogdan Khmelnitsky.
Modern history
In the autumn of 2001, a grand opening of a new pedestrian bridge connecting Rostovskaya and Berezhkovaya embankments took place. This design was based on the arch of 1907, which was designed by L. D. Proskuryakov. The supporting structure weighs about 1400 tons and is 135 meters long. Initially, the bridge was called Kievsky, as it is located in the immediate vicinity of the station of the same name. The arched structure is completely covered with a glass dome and has wide panoramic windows. The supporting structure was also modified. The modern bridge has reinforced concrete abutments extended into the river bed, which are wider than the arch. The updated design is designed in yellow-green colors. The bridge of Bogdan Khmelnytsky received its modern name in 2004.
Interior
The new pedestrian bridge during its existence has already fallen in love with many residents and guests of the capital. The very presence of a glass dome allows you to enjoy picturesque views in any weather. This solution is also useful from a practical point of view. In rain or snow, it is much more pleasant to move along a covered bridge. The interior is simple, but at the same time the objectlooks incredibly stylish and modern. A competent combination of metal and glass elements can greatly enhance the effect of the tunnel. Separate elements also deserve attention - for example, round ceiling lights that illuminate the pedestrian gallery at night. Inside the Bogdan Khmelnitsky pedestrian bridge is equipped with benches for rest. Recently, all kinds of shopping kiosks have appeared here, which, according to many Muscovites, only spoil the appearance of the attraction. The bridge also boasts open balconies for admiring picturesque panoramas and creating spectacular photographs, and you can access them from the main interior space through special doors.
The Bogdan Khmelnitsky Bridge: photos and interesting facts
The new pedestrian gallery became incredibly popular immediately after commissioning. The bridge is often filmed in all sorts of modern films, advertising and music videos. Professional and amateur photo shoots are also constantly held here. Meanwhile, the bridge of Bohdan Khmelnitsky has a rich and interesting history. In 1977, it was on it (Krasnoluzhsky Bridge at that time) that Martha Petersen, a CIA employee who was about to equip a hiding place, was detained. In 2002, an interesting action was held in this place - 2226 couples in love kissed here at the same time. And this figure became a new world record in its category. Today, many believe that if you kiss your partner on this bridge, you can hope for a long and unbreakable love union. What is curious: the tradition itselfborrowed. In St. Petersburg there is the Kissing Bridge, built back in the time of Peter the Great, after a kiss on which, according to legend, a romantic couple will never part again.
Where is the Bohdan Khmelnitsky Bridge in Moscow?
The sight of interest to us is located in the immediate vicinity of the Kievsky railway station. The nearest metro station is Kyiv. Getting to this original attraction is not difficult at all. You can take the metro and get off at the Kyiv station in the direction of the river. What is especially convenient is that the bridge is visible from afar, and you won’t be able to miss such an attraction.
Reviews of Muscovites and tourists about the sights
The updated bridge is liked by almost all residents and guests of the capital. This is a truly ingenious decision - to preserve the historical monument of architecture and give it a new life. Many Muscovites are dissatisfied with the number of mini-shops inside such a stylish and modern gallery. However, those who came to this interesting place for the first time usually do not pay attention to such trifles. The bridge is a great place for photo shoots. Often even newlyweds come here to take pictures on their wedding day. If you walk somewhere nearby, be sure to visit the bridge of Bogdan Khmelnitsky. You already know how to get to this attraction, the main thing is not to forget to charge your camera beforehand.
