The largest pond in Moscow is Borisovsky. As a rule, the name of this reservoir is used in the plural, since it includes several reaches. The Kashirskoye highway passes over this water body along the Borisovsky bridges. To the north of the ponds is the transport artery of the same name in a huge city called Moscow - Borisovskie Prudy Street.

Section 2. Borisov Ponds. Origin History

Studying the history of ponds leads researchers to the time of Tsar Boris Godunov. It is believed that these sources received their modern name from the name of the king.

In the 18-19th centuries this water body was called the Tsareborisovsky Pond.

Near the pond is now the village of Borisovo, which once belonged to Boris Godunov. Near the springs on the South Bank in 1591 a monument to Tsar Boris was erected in honor of the victory over the Tatars. Near the village, archaeologists are investigating the Borisov dam, which was built by Godunov in 1600 to breed fish to overcome the consequences of a famine year. In the 17th century, the village of Borisovo was populous and rich. At this time, a mill was built near the dam, which was converted into a paper mill in the 19th century.

Once a wooden church was built on the shore of the pond, which was replaced by a stone one at the beginning of the 18th century. It has not survived to our time, just like the Old Believer Church erected later in its place: the cause of destruction was flooding.

Section 3. Borisov Ponds. What tourists need to know?

The construction of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity at Borisov Ponds was carried out in the early 2000s in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Russia. The complex of buildings of this temple belongs to the Byzantine style.

In the early 2000s, work was carried out to drain the ponds, clean them andlandscaping.

Today, one can easily find a quiet place for fishing on the banks of Borisov Ponds. Agree, a rarity for such a metropolis as the capital of Russia.
