History of the city

People have long chosen this area. Near the Andreevsky Lake, traces of settlements dating back to the Neolithic era were found. On the left bank of the river Tours in the Iron Age were inhabited by representatives of the Sargat culture. It is known that in the 13th-14th centuries, the settlement of Chingi-Tura, inhabited by Tatars, was located on the site of Tyumen. It was the capital of the Khanate of the same name when Yermak went to conquer Siberia.

In 1586, according to the chronicle, by decree of Tsar Fyodor Ivanovich, son of Ivan the Terrible, a fortification was ordered to be built here. Governors Sukin and Myasin became the foundersthe first Siberian city. Archers and Cossacks settled in it in order to protect the territories and protect the caravan road ("Tyumen portage"), which went from the Volga region to the lands of North Asia. Soon artisans appeared in the prison. They cast bells, made soap, worked leather.

The city experienced its first heyday after the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Temples, tanneries, schools, printing houses appeared in it. The second push was the discovery of oil and gas deposits in the 1960s. Today Tyumen is listed among the ten richest Russian cities.
