The sights of Tehran, a huge metropolis with more than 14 million people, are worth visiting and contemplating. This city never sleeps. You can travel here all year round. In summer it is cool here because of the high snow-capped mountains, and in winter it is warm because icy winds do not reach. There is an abundance of parks and gardens, ancient buildings and rich museums. In a word, the capital of Iran is a real treasure trove of the East. But if you see her, she will steal your heart. And the reason for this will be the sights of Tehran, photos and descriptions of which we will post below.
How to get here
Flights from Moscow regularly depart to the capital of Iran. Mostly these are Aeroflot aircraft. They do not fly only on Monday and Friday. And on Tuesdays, you can still get to Tehran by planes of the Iran Air company. Imam Khomeini International Airport is located thirty-five kilometers from the center. To get to Tehranthe sights of which you are going to see, you will have to use the services of a taxi. But upon departure, you will need to go back to the airport as early as possible. The fact is that many kilometers of traffic jams await you on the way to the international hub.
How to get around the city
Tehran, whose sights are at a considerable distance from each other, has a public transport network. But the buses run very irregularly and the subway won't let you get to all the places you want to see. In addition, all route numbers and names are written in Arabic letters, and if you do not know this language, you risk getting lost. Therefore, tourists recommend traveling by taxi. Moreover, by the standards of European countries and even Russia, they are quite cheap.
Palaces, parks, mosques
Tourists who are interested in the sights of Tehran usually start their independent excursions with this. Persia for many centuries had rulers who tried to impress their people with the splendor of palaces. Therefore, it is even difficult to say with which one it is worth starting the inspection. These are the complexes of Saadabad, Golestan, Green and White Palaces, Ivan e-Takht-e-Marmar, Amarat-e-Badgir and others. The most famous - the "Palace of Roses" - was built in the sixteenth century. These are the twenty most beautiful halls of Golestan, many of which are also museums. There are expositions of photographs, archeology, an art gallery, Japanese and Chinese porcelain, the rarest books written in Arabic script, and one of the most famous diamonds in the world - "Ocean of Light". And in this palace, amazing works of Iranian craftsmen in metal, wood and ceramics are collected. The former summer residence of the Shah of Saadabad is also very popular. In addition to the main palace, visitors can enjoy many pavilions with museums and exhibitions. And of the parks, the central one, e-Lale, is considered the best. Fans of antiquity can visit the ancient fortress of Sheshme Ali. It belongs to the fourth millennium BC. Well, what are the sights of Tehran without mosques? There are about a thousand of them here, and all of them have the richest interiors, decorated with tiles and mosaics. The most famous among them is Sepahsalar, which, according to experts, fully embodies Iranian national traditions.
Museums
If you come to this city, be sure to check out its collections. The sights of Tehran are inconceivable without museums. And there are a lot of them here. Often tourists speak well of the National Museum of Tehran. A lot of historical and archaeological exhibits, as well as artifacts from the Sassanid era, are exhibited here. The museum has an excellent collection of folk crafts and calligraphy samples. Very often, Iran is presented as a hater of Western culture. But it is in the capital of this country that the masterpieces of contemporary European artists are presented. This is Picasso, and Matisse, and Van Gogh, and Dali. The collection of the Museum of Modern Art is considered the largest in Asia. Nearby is another interestingexposure. This is the Carpet Museum. It exhibits the art for which Iran has been famous for centuries. The oldest carpet is already four hundred years old. And on the ground floor of the museum there are craftsmen who continue to make these Persian masterpieces.
National Treasury
This museum of the capital holds a special place. The rest of Tehran's attractions pale in comparison. Probably, there are as many different treasures there as none of us have ever seen in our lives. In some ways, this museum resembles the fabulous mountains of dragons, with placers of gold and jewelry. Of particular interest to visitors is the famous Peacock Throne. This shah throne is adorned with 27,000 precious stones. The treasures of this museum shine with all the colors of the rainbow. You may not see any of Tehran's sights, but these priceless things are a must see. In addition to amazing masterpieces, such as the crown of Shah Reza and a two-meter golden globe, the continents of which are lined with stunning stones (there are about 51 thousand of them), an unimaginable number of muskets in gold and diamonds, tiaras, sabers, hookahs, rings, and all this is richly inlaid.
Sights of Tehran: reviews
Most tourists are shocked by the National Treasury. Those who managed to visit there used to think that there was nothing richer than the Armory Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin. But when they saw the Peacock Throne, they wrote that if lightning struck nearby, they would not even notice. This is Tehran. The sights, the photos of which you see here, unfortunately, are unknown to most tourists. But over time, Iran expects an influx of travelers.
