The name of the ancient settlement Kart-Oba was given by the Phoenicians, and later the Persians captured the territory, which marked the dominance of Carthage. During the Roman Empire, the city of Corduba was considered one of the largest and most cultural, but the beginning of the rise is still considered to be the 10th century, when Muslims came to power, opening free schools for the rich and the poor.

The blessings of civilization appeared - running water, lighting on the streets and sewerage. The construction of luxurious palaces with fountains and spacious houses with widestreets, and the capital of the emirate was one of the richest cities in the world.

Another important historical monument, which is famous for the beautiful city of Cordoba (Spain), is the Roman bridge, which appeared during the reign of Emperor Augustus. For several centuries, this powerful structure was the only trade route through the Guadalquivir River.

The structure, consisting of 16 arches, did not survive to this day and was destroyed to the ground during numerous wars. Gradually, the bridge was rebuilt on the old foundation. Since 2004, vehicles have been banned from entering the ancient structure.

The sculpture of the patron saint of the city - Archangel Raphael, located on the bridge, is of great interest to tourists. There are always candles burning near the statue and flowers that the inhabitants bring to their protector every day.
