Until 1865, there was a copper smelter in the present-day Motovilikha district of Perm. The place may well have turned into a wasteland, but it got a chance to become one of the most beautiful corners of the city.
The park was originally under the supervision of the factory management and local residents. During its existence, it has changed several names:
- official - "Garden named after Molotov", "Garden named after Sverdlov";
- assigned to him by the townspeople - "Garden near the old factory", "Angelic garden", "Garden of Eden".
The appearance of the park also changed. The territory with several alleys gradually turned into a place where residents spent their leisure time not only walking along the paths. During the Soviet period, grounds were arranged and equipped where checkers and chess tournaments were held, musical groups and folk ensembles performed, poetry evenings and cultural events were held. The most memorable event of that time can be called the arrival and performance of Vladimir Mayakovsky in 1928.
The Garden of Eden park in Perm suffered its first small reconstruction in 1950. Alleys and grounds were put in order, plantings were planted, lawns were restored, and traditional for that time sculptural compositions dedicated to work, study and sports were installed. The park became a place where films were shown in the evenings in the summer, and fairs were held on weekends. In winter, it was time for ice fun, the skating rink was flooded, slides were built.
Periodically, the Garden of Eden park in Perm fell into disrepair, but was restored again and again. Its global reconstruction took place in 2009 at the initiative of the mayor. The canal was cleared, work was carried out to remake the alleys and their lighting, new buildings were erected, and the old ones were demolished or restored. The new opening of the garden was timed to the day of the city - June 12, 2010.
