A well-known philanthropist, gallery owner, collector, this man has been organizing exhibitions of contemporary artists for several decades. We are talking about Gary Tatintsian.
A little about the founder of the gallery
Being an Armenian by origin, he moved to Moscow to continue his father's work and become a dentist. But he did not like this speci alty, and when in 1988 Gary and his family emigrated to Germany, his worldview changed dramatically. Once abroad, the young man began to carefully study the art world of Western countries and engage in collecting. Soon he managed to open his gallery in Berlin, which, however, very quickly disappointed him, and it had to be closed. But Gary, despite the first setback, continued to explore the art market.
Art gallery in New York
Not finding a job to his liking in Berlin, Tatintsyan moved to America. In 1998, he decides to establish his own contemporary art exhibition center in New York. Deciding“shoot”, as the press wrote, at the New York public, he gathered in one place the works of three artists who create in an innovative style, who, although they never exhibited together, but, being acquaintances, strongly influenced each other. These were the Americans Frank Stella, George Sugarman and Judy Pfaf. It must be said that the New York gallery of Gary Tatintsyan was an incredible success. America "surprised", "smiled" and recognized the collector.
Art gallery in Moscow
The first gallery of Gary Tatintsyan was opened in the Russian capital in 2005. It was located on Ilyinka street. Then the art dealer brought the creations of eight artists to his first exhibition: Tony Ousler, Vik Muniz, Peter Helly, Christine Calabrese, Anthony Gormley, Torbin Giler, Stefan Balkenhol and Tony Matelli. Each of them was represented by two works. The metropolitan audience was able to appreciate the works for which many European museums are in line.
Gary Tatintsyan's first gallery in Moscow focused on conceptual Western art, Russian avant-garde art of the early twentieth century, photography and design. The art dealer is sure that there are many well-to-do intellectuals in the Russian capital who are able to appreciate such art.
Since its opening, the first gallery of Gary Tatintsian has already managed to present such contemporary artists as Joel-Peter Witkin, Daniel Richter and Damien Hirst, Peter Helly, Tala R, Christopher Wool, Yasumashi Morimura, Peter Doiga, Jonathan Meese, Cecily Brown, Georg Baselitz, ChrisOfili, Tony Matelli, George Condo and others. Exhibitions were also held here of such famous twentieth-century photographers as Weegee, Rodchenko, Mohoy-Nadya and Lersky.
Today
In September 2013, Gary Tatintsyan's gallery moved to its new premises. The opening was combined with a personal exhibition of the famous German artist Reile. It regularly hosts exhibitions by contemporary authors, including a group show by Tony Matelli, John Miller and Olaf Brening.
Today Gary Tatintsyan's Moscow Gallery (address: Serebryanichnaya Emb., 19) is located in the modern Arthouse building. It is decorated in a laconic design, which is dominated by light colors. This solution allows you to easily and quickly convert the available space to any exhibition requirement.
The main exposition areas of Gary Tatintsian Gallery are avant-garde, constructivism, conceptual design and, of course, photography. Especially often here the viewer sees art installations that enter into a dialogue with reality.
Famous Ron Arad
Gary Tatintsyan Gallery in the spring of 2016 exhibited the American artist Soul. His collection was called You Better Call Saul. In November of the same year, a personal exhibition of the famous London architect and designer Ron Arad was presented here. Known for his steel concept art, this artist has been translating his brilliance and unique style into a wide variety of art for over three decades.
The exhibition in Moscow was a retrospective of the designer's work, bringing together a series of pressed FIAT 500 cars, as well as his steel iconic objects, including the author's design called Free Standing China, as well as an interactive unique The Last Train, which was designed specifically for the Aradov studio.
Gallery reviews
Many Muscovites have already visited Arthouse. Judging by the reviews, connoisseurs of contemporary art appreciated many expositions. Muscovites speak a lot of positive words about the exhibition of photographs by Joel-Peter Witkin, the works of artist Peter Halley, designer Ron Arad and many others, which stirred up the consciousness of the public.
The Gary Tatintsyan Gallery has the opportunity to consult with experts on issues related to the organization of museum exhibitions or the formation of a collection, to conduct an examination of a particular work of art.
This is a great place, especially for those who are already bored with traditional art in its classical form. The unusualness of the exhibits, the originality of the paintings, the stunning novelty of the installation - all this attracts visitors here.
