Many people think that the most boring entertainment can be an excursion to the botanical garden. Volgograd has become living proof that this statement is fundamentally wrong. For 60 years, local authorities have tried to create an arboretum in the city, but each time the attempts ended in failure. Look into the past

Botanical Garden (Volgograd) was founded in 2002. More precisely, not quite so. At that time, a decision was made by the regional Duma, and in 2003 the project was signed by the head of the regional administration. Thus, a new state institution called "VRBS" was born.

Already in 2009a genetic seed bank was established. To date, it contains 978 samples of 476 plant species. This number includes 262 rare and protected species. Of these, today 115 are listed in the Red Book. It is noteworthy that initially scientists worked with the seeds of those plants that grow in the region. Their cultivation, improvement of properties - all this gave excellent results. Later, a number of samples were obtained through exchange with other arboretums.

The Botanical Garden (Volgograd) is a complex organization that has its own structure. On the territory of the garden there is a management apparatus and a scientific department of the organization. It includes several structural units: a biotechnology laboratory, a herbarium, a scientific library of the botanical garden. But that's not all. The city arboretum (Krasnooktyabrsky district) preserves and studies promising species of natural flora within the framework of this collection. All discoveries arepublic domain, as residents can purchase seedlings and grow them in their garden plots. These can be ornamental and medicinal plants.

Blooming Garden

Apart from everything else, the arboretum in Volgograd is a place where luxurious flower beds are constantly blooming. A special place among ornamental plants is occupied by collections of individual plants. These are irises and clematis, roses and much more. For example, the collection of clematis is the largest in Russia.

Indoor plants - this is another promising direction, which with great success finds its implementation here. A large collection of ficuses and succulents is constantly maintained in local greenhouses. And of course, the biotechnology laboratory is of the greatest practical importance. Plants are propagated here and their genomes are studied. As a result, the selection does not stand still, and guests can enjoy all the new varieties.

Tours

Volgograd Regional Botanical Garden invites tourists for a walk through the collection fund. Visitors will get acquainted with the real Garden of Eden. Tropical plants are fragrant in the greenhouses, orchids are blooming. Thematic exhibitions are sometimes devoted to the ripening of exotic fruits. For example, recently they arranged a tour with a tasting of monstera fruits. Tours are held at: Metallurgov, 68. From April to September, the garden can be visited on Thursdays, during the day. Botanical Garden in the Central District
