One of the facilities built in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2018 was the Volga Arena stadium in Nizhny Novgorod. Its construction transformed the city, changing the entire surrounding landscape. The architects managed to harmoniously fit the sports complex into the territory limited by historical buildings, the Volga and the residential area. The stadium is equipped with all the necessary infrastructure and is an example of the domestic architectural art of our days.
Stadium parameters
During the construction of the facility, domestic materials were used instead of originally planned imported ones. Russian equipment was used in the installation of lighting, ventilation and air conditioning systems, and space heating. Grandstands for spectators, decoration of the interior space and facades were also built from domestic materials.
The area of the stadium is 127,500square meters. The building itself, which houses stands, changing rooms, cafes, toilets and other facilities, has the shape of a flattened cylinder with an open space of a football field in the center. It has five tiers and is over 50 meters high.
If you look at the stadium "Volga-Arena" (Nizhny Novgorod) from the side, its main distinguishing feature will be a colonnade of trihedral pillars, which holds the roof over the stands and the interior, made of metal.
The cost of the project exceeded seventeen billion rubles.
The spectator stands of the arena are divided into four sectors, denoted by the letters A, B, C, D. The most expensive seats are located in sector A, the access of ticket holders to the stands of other sectors is limited here. This is done because the players' locker rooms are located under these stands. Sectors B and D are behind the gates, so the most accessible seats are on their upper tiers. It is worth noting that the field is perfectly visible from almost anywhere in the stands.
Why build a stadium
As in many other cities of our country, the Volga Arena in Nizhny Novgorod was built to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Designed for 45,000 spectators, built in accordance with all modern norms and standards, it certainly coped with its task. 6 matches were played at the Nizhny Novgorod stadium. All of them were held with the scope inherent in such competitions and gathered a large number of spectators. Tourists flooded the complexVolga Arena in Nizhny Novgorod. Everyone tried to provide comfort for the fans and show their city from the best side. At the Nizhny Novgorod stadium, the guests of the country were met by a whole army of volunteers and staff. Foreign tourists were helped to orient themselves in the city, use transport, find objects of interest to them and receive other services. Ordinary townspeople also helped the guests with pleasure. All matches were held at an excellent level. The organizers received high praise from FIFA for their work.
Environment
Volga-Arena in Nizhny Novgorod was built very close to the place where the river port used to function. It was one of the largest river tourist centers founded at the confluence of the Oka and Volga. The point of pride, which was generously endowed by the nature of Nizhny Novgorod - Strelka, deserves mention. This is the name of the confluence of two mighty Russian rivers - the Volga and the Oka. The stadium is located nearby, and therefore it is visible from the main observation platforms of the city, located on the Dyatlovy Mountains in the vicinity of the Kremlin, as well as from embankments and bridges.
Further fate of the stadium
After the completion of the World Cup, the sports complex will become the base stadium of the Nizhny Novgorod football club. Here it is worth mentioning that its name has changed to "Nizhny Novgorod". Just like the team of the capital of the Volga region. Now part of the stands have already been dismantled and the capacity of the facility is now 35,000 people. However, this is more thanenough for national championship matches and international competitions of a smaller scale than the World Cup. It should be noted that now the stadium is already functioning in a new mode and regularly hosts home games of FC Nizhny Novgorod. And quite recently, a match between the youth teams of Serbia and Russia was held at this site. In the future, the facility is planned to be used for city holidays, concerts, and other events associated with a large crowd of people. This is facilitated by the developed parking space around the stadium, its convenient geographical location and, of course, compliance with the highest safety standards.
