Not far from the square isthe famous Mannequin Pis fountain, which is considered the hallmark of the city. The Palace of Nations (parliament) rises nearby.

Among the most beautiful architectural buildings, we should highlight the Cathedral of Our Lady and the Wall Fortress, which is considered the oldest building in the city. It is recommended to visit the first skyscraper in Belgium - Borenbond Tower. The city has a huge number of different museums, each of which deserves a visit. It is impossible not to mention such a building as the Borgerhout Town Hall, which has 47 bells.

Interesting places in Lir

Continuing to look at the sights of Belgium, let's turn our attention to the city of Lir. This locality is famous for the Zimmer Tower, which was once part of the city wall. At present, it has been turned into an astronomical clock, which is a dial with time, around which there are 12 small dials showing the lunar and solar calendar, signs of the zodiac, season, day of the week, and the like. The statues of the kings of the city and the burgomasters ring the bell every hour, placed on the right side of the tower. Inside the building is a planetarium. In addition to the astronomical clock in the city, the luxurious town hall, built in the Rococo style, deserves attention. The Collegiate Church rises in the central square of Lear,dedicated to the patron saint of the city. Its building was built in the Brabant Gothic style. One of the most beautiful in the country is the Beguinjek Monastery, founded in the 13th century.

Ghent - a city of old buildings

This is the capital of East Flanders - Ghent, in which there are many buildings of the country's ancient architecture. Most of them are concentrated in the historical part of the city. St. Michael's Bridge over the watchtower and the Fox Canal is considered a symbol of the city. It is from this place that you should start exploring Ghent. In whatever corner of the city you go, everywhere you can find a whole string of attractive buildings. This is the church of St. Nicholas, and the magnificent castles of Gerard the Devil and Count Philip, built in the 12th century. One of the majestic buildings is the Van der Mers Palace, built in the 18th century. Of interest to numerous tourists are the murals of Van Eyck in the Cathedral of St. Bavo. It will also be interesting to visit St. Peter's Abbey, located on the slopes of Blandeinberg.

Bruges - Medieval Trade Center

This is not the whole of Belgium. Ghent, whose sights we have already examined, is not the only city in which almost every building deserves attention. Another excellent place to visit is Bruges. One of the most attractive buildings is the watchtower,whose height is 83 meters. It was built in the period of 13-15 centuries. No less interesting building of the 12th-13th centuries is the Cathedral of St. Salvator, in the building of which the Cathedral Museum is located. Another building worth seeing is the Gothic Church of Our Lady, which is 122 meters high. Its construction was carried out in the 14th century. No less beautiful are the churches of St. Anna, St. Jacob, the Jerusalem Church and the Church of St. Walpurgis. In addition, the city has 80 magnificent bridges stretching over the most picturesque canals.

Hot City Liege

Looking at the sights of Belgium, one cannot fail to note Liege, which is one of the ancient cities of Wallonia. Here it is recommended to visit the palace of the prince-bishops. The city has many interesting museums. Among the architectural structures, the town hall deserves attention. An ancient symbol of the independence of the city is a fountain with four columns, on which statues of lions are placed. It was built on the Marchais Market Square. Interesting to see is the church of St. Antoine, as well as the ancient monastery Frere-Miner, where there are baptismal fonts with scenes from the Bible. The majestic Cathedral rises in St. Paul's Square, next to which the statue of the Virgin of Delcourt attracts attention.

Beethoven's birthplace - Mechelen

What else can Belgium surprise its guests with? The sights, the photos of which are presented above, can be supplemented with the most interesting places and buildings of the city of Mechelen,which is the birthplace of Beethoven. One of the oldest buildings is Schepenhuis (built in 1374). It will be interesting to visit the palace of Margaret of Austria, which now houses the Palace of Justice. Among other buildings, the palace of Margaret of York, where the theater is currently located, should be highlighted.
