There are many lakes in the Urals. One of them is right in Chelyabinsk. This is an amazing phenomenon. After all, this reservoir is more than 3 million years old. But it still feeds people with water, and healing. And what kind of fishing is here! Amazingly beautiful forests, meadows!

Ancient past

Right in the city there is a natural reservoir, and even slightly s alty. Lake Smolino is not at all small, as some might think. On the contrary, it's huge. Few people know that earlier it was even called the Chelyabinsk Sea.

Its age (it's scary to say!) is about 3 million years. Don't believe? On the shores they found the sinker of the same prehistoric fisherman who hunted here. The find is dated to the fourth millennium BC. In the scientific world and among the public, it was just a sensation!

Marine origins

A lake is nothing but a “particle” of some very ancient sea. It also contains sea water. It looks like it is poured into a giant bowl. The bottom is made of dense clay. Above - sand and mud with a healing effect.

True, Smolino Lake has problems. Sometimes it shrinks. Water, suddenly filled with hydrogen sulfide, becomes somehow bitter-s alty in taste. This is generally unsuitable forany organisms. The same fish, for example, just disappears.

Lake is the source of food

The reservoir has greatly decreased at the beginning of the last century. In the summer months of 1925, taking advantage of this situation, archaeologists began their work on the formed shallows. And they found scrapers made of silicon, all kinds of files, knives, blades. It was nothing more than the "workshop" of primitive people. Here they made various tools of labor and life. At the same time, scientists also excavated burial mounds - several ancient burials.

Judging by the unique things found, this area was densely populated.

The first inhabitants of these places were, of course, fishermen. And what else to do if there is such a simple and never-ending source of food nearby? It can be seen that this is the reason that there were most people camping near Lake Smolino.

We ate fish. Fishing places, by the way, are called saims. Chelyabinsk fans to sit with a fishing rod are well aware of these very points even today. Also, the ancient inhabitants here were engaged in hunting, in the district they collected berries, roots. Raised livestock.

Where did the name come from: interesting

Interesting fact. Many different tribes and nationalities lived in the Southern Urals in the distant past. There were, for example, both the ancestors of the Germans and the Slavs, and also the Pamirs with the Iranians. Even Indians, not to mention Pakistanis. It was the predecessors of those living in Afghanistan who named the lake - Irendik. That is, reddish-golden.

This color was the sand and soil near the sea-lake. Came instead of them the ancestors of modernresidents of Bashkiria and also Tatarstan - and changed the name. The lake became known as Irendyk-Kul.

And now - the history of Lake Smolino. In the middle of the 18th century, Russian people founded a fortress here and gave it a name - Chelyaba.

The lake at that time overflowed - into three reservoirs. But then the water began to rise, its level rose and there was even an excess that replenished the Miass River. Then the time came again when Irendik (Smolino) became shallow again. The water became unpleasant - both bitter and s alty at the same time. The lake was nicknamed Gorky.

The first settler in the Chelyabinsk fortress was Savva Smolin. He was given a plot of land here. Settled properly. The brothers have arrived. And all three of them founded Smolino - a Cossack village near Gorky Lake. And over time, this name passed to the reservoir. This name exists today.

View from above

To see Lake Smolino (Chelyabinsk) "from above", just take a map. And it will become clear: here in the southeast of the image is a blue “spot”. Geographically, this oasis "belongs" to two districts (Leninsky, also Soviet). Smolnoozernaya Zaimka (settlement) is located on one shore. There are residential areas, houses. This pond is in the shape of an oval. It stretches from north to south for six kilometers. Its width is four kilometers. The bottom is sandy, in places it is rocky. All shores, except for the southern one, are quite flat. They grow reeds and reeds. Nicely done by nature for fishing fans.

What's going on here? All! Chebak, perch, whitefish, carp, ruff, rotan, crucian carp. And even the luckiest one comes across a pike. This place has always been famous for such luxurious fishing.

Before, fry were launched into the water. And today the lake itself is “fished out”. You can fish anywhere, but it is better, however, to know the best places. And then you won't have to go home - both empty-handed and with your head bowed.

Wastewater

Let's not hide it - not everything is in order with the environment in these places. This lake has become a purely urban "resident". And therefore, all kinds of pollutants, coupled with sewage streams, go straight into the once purest reservoir. This is, first of all,heavy metals, then oil products, organic substances and other things that a person throws out as a result of his activities. And it gets into the water…

But recently, the ancient lake has some protectors. These are students of the Faculty of Ecology of the Chelyabinsk State University. Together with the "Public Chamber of the Region" they carry out environmental raids. We have already checked many points of this famous reservoir. All parameters were measured. Photographed what I didn't like. Finally, protocols were drawn up, suspicious rose water was sent for examination (apparently, it has a high content of copper and iron).

This project is very important. Its social significance is great. Also because many young people want to be useful to the country and people on a volunteer basis. Today there are more and more public organizations on ecology. Young people understand and want to protect nature. And not only in nature reserves.
