Cuba. Havana. General information

The capital of Cuba is one of the most stunning cities on the planet. It is located directly on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. We can safely say that, being the main economic, political and cultural center of the country, Havana annually attracts a huge number of tourists from all over the world.

If you delve into history, you can find out that the Spanish conquistadors founded the Cuban capital at the beginning of the 16th century, which is why most of the locals now speak Spanish. Since then, the central part of the city, called Old Havana, has managed to acquire an original and incomparable architectural flavor. It successfully combines different styles, trends and characteristics.

This is the most populous city in the country, currently home to more than two and a half million people. Ethnic compositionvery unusual: 70% of the total population of the metropolis are descendants of settlers from Spain, and the rest (quite a significant) part is represented by the population of Indian-African blood.

In general, Cuba (Havana in particular) offers a holiday for every taste. The city lives quite an active cultural life. Every year, those who are not averse to enjoy incendiary music, dance in nightclubs and just have a great time come here. The main fun here begins closer to midnight and does not stop until dawn.

But that's not all. Havana (Cuba) is, perhaps, a real paradise for lovers of outdoor recreation. Many luxurious and superbly equipped beaches, exciting fishing, a variety of water sports. To realize these opportunities, travelers go to the northern part of the city, to the beaches with difficult names for a Russian person: Gibacoa, El Salado and Arroyo-Bermejo.

Those who are lucky enough to visit Cuba during one of the many carnivals should definitely look at the Melekon promenade, because this is where the magnificent celebrations take place.

720 thousand square kilometers of the Cuban capital are bordered by breathtaking bays - Havana and San Lizaro. The bay, whose name is consonant with the name of the city, connects through a narrow strait with the Gulf of Mexico. Havana boasts of having three ports at once: Guanabacoa, Marimelena and Atares. It is pleasant to stroll in each of them in the evening, sit with a cup of coffee in a cozy cafe and admire the majestic courts.

Havana's climate is conducive to relaxation throughout the year. The water temperature, even in the cold months, does not drop much below +24 C°, and the air warms up to +25 C°. For this reason, a comfortable stay, without suffocating heat and exhausting heat, is guaranteed to every traveler. The seasonality of the climate, it should be noted, is weakly expressed, so it is quite difficult to predict the weather. It happens that during the so-called rainy season (from May to October) there are sunny and dry days, and in November-April a real tropical downpour starts.
