Long preparation

Even before the appearance of the complex in a form familiar to visitors, there were various menageries. So in 1881 a letter was published calling for the opening of the zoo. Then, in 1981, attempts were made to organize the necessary space. Even a project was drawn up, according to which a zoo was to appear in one of the parks in the Czech Republic. Prague, however, did not wait for its implementation. In 1899, they again tried to reach an agreement.

In many of his works, he put forward and developed the theme of creating a zoo. In 1904, the government allocated the island of Shtvanice to the scientist for the creation of the complex. But he believed that the received land was too little. Then the war began, and construction was frozen.

Commissioning

In 1919, the government returns to the idea that the city needs a zoo. Prague had at that time 14 different variants of sites for furnishing the space. The land near the capital in the town of Troy, which was donated by the agricultural magnate Alois Svoboda, was the best fit.

But due to various difficulties, construction progressed slowly. By the end of 1927, the fence of the future zoo was ready. Professor Irzha Janda kept some of the animals that were donated to the complex fund in his villa, as the enclosures for them were not ready.

September 28, 1931 for the first time opens its doors to visitors to the zoo in Prague. Photographic materials and memoirs of contemporaries indicate that it was not yet completed, but the positive impressions from meeting with animals overshadowed all the repair shortcomings. The animal pavilions and enclosures became so popular that the administration had to increase the number of days and open hours for visits.

Inhabitants

Among the first animals were Lot's she-wolf, Przewalski's Mink and Ali's horses. In 1932, the Mitau and Bengal tigers settled in the premises. twelvemonths they brought the first litter. In August 2002, people and animals survived a terrible flood. Due to heavy rains, the Vltava River overflowed its banks and flooded a huge amount of space. The natural disaster broke out rapidly - the water was arriving at a speed of 5160 cm per second. Therefore, employees were unable to evacuate some of the animals from the lower part of the complex. 134 animals died, property was significantly damaged. The 2013 flood did slightly less harm.

Equipment

The zoo complex in the Czech Republic has a huge scale. Currently, the area of the territory is 60 hectares, 50 of them are reserved for indoor areas, aviaries and pens for animals. The creators of the zoo tried to create conditions for all the inhabitants as close to natural as possible. Naturally, the landscape is divided into two parts. For people who do not have personal transport, there are two options for moving. It is easier, faster and more convenient to get there by metro and bus. So, the traveler needs to get off at the Nadrazi Holesovice station. Then find a stop, it is located near the subway exit. The bus runs every 5-7 minutes. The journey takes an average of 10 minutes.

But a ship trip will become more romantic and interesting. Sailing along the Vltava, you can have time to enjoy the beautiful views of urban and country architecture. Having taken some bread with you, it is worth feeding the swans. But this way of moving has its drawbacks. You need to come to the pier in advance, as a large line of people who want to be on board line up at the ticket office. On the way, you will have to wait for the passage of locks. The ship brings passengers not to the zoo itself, but to a nearby pier. From here you have to walk for about30 minutes.

The complex is open all year round, all days of the week. Opening hours vary depending on the season. The longest working days in summer are from 9:00 to 19:00. In April, May, September and October - from 9:00 am to 18:00 pm. In November, December and January the zoo closes at 16:00.
