Lake Synevyr, photos of which are located below, is the largest mountain reservoir in Ukraine. It is unique in its beauty and fascinates with mystery. On all sides, this lake is surrounded by ridges and massifs, in connection with which it is often called "a drop of the sea among the mountains." And this is far from the only epithet. Local residents also use other names - "pearl of the Carpathians", "sea eye", "lake of lovers". Each of them in its own way reflects the essence and legends associated with this amazing creation of nature.
Location
Located within the mountain range called the Carpathians, Lake Synevyr was formed in the post-glacial period at an altitude of 987 meters above sea level. It was the result of a blockage in the Mezhgorny district of the Transcarpathian region. Nearby is the small village of Synevyrska Polyana, which is located in a gorge formed by the Slenizir and Ozernaya mountains, as well as a spur of the Water Separating Range.
General Description
The total area of the reservoir is about seven hectares. The average depth here is 16 meters, while its maximum- 24 meters. Lake Synevyr is fed by surface water and atmospheric precipitation. It also has a small stream flowing out of it. There is an island on its territory, which is located in the central part. You can see it only in summer and only if there is a small amount of precipitation. When it appears, from a height it all resembles an eye with a pupil (island) and eyelashes (forests). The water in the lake is very clear and clean, so the bottom is usually visible through it. It has a constant temperature - 11 degrees. Aquatic vegetation here actively develops only within the coastal strip. The banks themselves are covered with dense forests. In the alpine meadows, which have not yet been touched by civilization, in the area of the reservoir, there are about a hundred different varieties of endangered and rare plants. As for the local fauna, its representatives are certain varieties of microscopic crustaceans, trout is also found.
Legends
According to local legend, Lake Synevyr appeared thanks to great love, which forever united the souls of a simple shepherd named Vir and the count's daughter, whose name was Sin. Belief says that the girl's father was categorically against such a union, so he ordered his servants to throw a large stone on the guy. Upon learning of the death of her lover, Xin ran to the scene of the tragedy, hugged the guy, and cried for several days and nights. This continued until the reservoir formed from tears carried her to its depths. This sad story in our time is reminiscent of a sculpture,made by Transcarpathian mahogany craftsmen in 1983. It is for this reason that Synevyr is usually called the “lake of lovers”. The small island in the center of the pool mentioned earlier is believed to be where Vir was killed.
National Park
In 1974, the government of the USSR decided on the need to protect such a unique natural landmark as Lake Synevyr. As a result, a landscape reserve appeared, which received the status of a natural national park in 1989. Currently, its area is more than forty thousand hectares, while six thousand of them are protected areas. Nowadays, the natural national park "Synevyr" is not only a famous lake. It also includes other attractions, among which should be noted the Wild Lake, the Glukhanya swamp and many other interesting places. The Timber Rafting Museum located on the territory of the park deserves special mention. It is the only hydraulic structure of its kind built on water. In general, each of the corners of the park is a real picturesque picture that opens before the eyes of the traveler.
Recreation and tourism
From the famous resorts "Mezhhirya", "Pylypets", "Izki", "Podobovets" you can quickly get to Lake Synevyr. Recreation and tourism here are quite common throughout the year. The main local treasures are the cleanest air, untouched forests, organic berries and mushrooms. in summer veryhiking, trekking and horseback riding are popular. In winter, skiers and snowboarders come here. It should be noted that only beginners make sense to ride here. In Synevyrska Polyana, the Trembitas Call festival is held annually, dedicated to ethnic music. Not only Ukrainian artists come here, but also representatives of neighboring countries.
Carpathian "pearl"
As mentioned earlier, Lake Synevyr is often called the "Pearl of the Carpathians". To understand why such a name was assigned to the reservoir, you can only visit it. Perennial firs and beeches, the width of which is several girths, crystal clear water, mountain peaks piercing clouds, fresh air - all this creates a unique atmosphere in the complex.
