Sakhalin originated 60-65 million years ago in the form of the movement of deep masses of matter - various folds arose, parts of solid rocks rose. The relatively recent cities of Sakhalin attract many travelers and explorers.

Natural disasters

Sakhalin is one of the most active parts of the earth. Many Sakhalin cities hit by earthquakes:

• 1971 - earthquake in the area of Moneron Island (8 points).
• 1985 - earthquake in Neftegorsk (10 points).
• 2006 - Nevelsk earthquake (6 points).

This chain showed that Sakhalin lives on giant seismic faults. Frequent earthquakes indicate that the tectonic development of the island has not yet been completed. The evolution of Sakhalin continues - the relief is changing, the deep layers are moving.

Nogliki - the oil and gas capital of Sakhalin

This city is not accidentally called the oil and gas capital. It is here that 98% of Sakhalin gas and oil are produced. Minerals were found a long time ago on Sakhalin, and they are enough fordecades ahead.

Many locals enjoy fishing. For some, this is just entertainment, but for someone - the only source of income. Sakhalin's law allows indigenous people to use nets and catch up to 300 kg of fish per person daily.

Sakhalin, city of Nevelsk

Every tenth city dweller works at sea. Crabs, shrimp and other delicacies are regular products in local shops. Almost all the buildings in the city are new - they were all built after the 2007 earthquake. In addition to residential and administrative buildings, an embankment and a port are being built in the city, and a special fortification is being erected to protect the city from the raging sea.

Today, the key driver of economic growth is the transport arm - highways, railways and ocean ports. It is the capacity of logistics channels that will become a key factor in the economic stability of a huge country. The seaports of the Far East play a central role here, one of which is the Korsakov Sea Trade Port on Sakhalin Island.

All cities of Sakhalin have a special attraction. But here it is impossible not to mention the famous port city. More than a century of history has made it a strategic transport hub in the region with a cargo turnover of over a million tons per year.

The port authorities have developed a large-scale modernization program that involves significantexpansion of the existing infrastructure and creation of a modern logistics complex. Within five years, cargo turnover will at least double and reach three million a year, and the city will receive up to 2,000 new jobs, providing the state with a year-round transshipment base in the center of the Asian Pacific region.

Participation of the state in the process of updating the port will solve a number of key tasks for the development of its infrastructure. The lengthening of the berth and carrying out dredging operations will ensure the acceptance of ocean-class vessels with a capacity of up to a thousand containers and vessels with a deepened fairway. The construction of a 400-meter protective pier will eliminate long-term downtime in the port due to storms and storms. The new specialized cargo and passenger terminal will increase transport accessibility and significantly increase the attractiveness of this place.

Sakhalin Island, whose cities are sure to be visited by many tourists, will become very popular. The renovated port will become a new ocean gateway to the Far East and a key transshipment link for the Northern Sea Route.
