Lanshinsky quarry: fishing and recreation on the Oka

Lanshinsky quarry is an amazingly picturesque place located on the border of three regions at once: Moscow, Tula, Kaluga. The nearest settlement is the village of Lanshino, Serpukhov District, Moscow Region.

How the quarry was formed

Lanshinsky quarry is located on the banks of the Oka. It was formed at the place of limestone mining.

Since time immemorial, natural stone has been mined by hand, in an open pit. In 1954, wheelbarrows were replaced by powerful machinery, and mining took on an industrial scale. Limestone was loaded onto dump trucks and transported to a crusher. Construction crushed stone obtained after processing, as well as crushing waste (sand and flour) were loaded onto barges and sent along the Oka and Volga to their destinations.

When it became clear that the main layer of limestone was located directly under the village of Lanshinsky, stone mining was stopped, and they stopped deepening the Oka bed in the area of the former quarry. Now multi-ton barges do not go in this place, and the quarry itself gradually overgrown with pine forest and turned into a picturesque place. The pit stretched for 2 kilometers, around it in some places there were rockyexits 10 to 20 meters high.

The sheer walls of the quarry are dotted with cracks, as limestone was mined by modern miners using explosives.

Fishing spots on the Oka River

In more detail, the path looks like this. Heading to Tula, you need to pass the traffic police post, which is located in front of the Oka, cross the river on the bridge, and then - under the overpass, located two kilometers from the bridge.

When passing under the overpass, you need to turn sharply to the right to climb to its beginning,then take the exit to the left leading downhill.

After descending from the overpass, the road to the Lanshinsky quarries runs parallel to the river floodplain to the railway bridge, next to which the Zaoksky brick factory is located.

Near the T-junction, where there is a sign for the city of Aleksin, you need to turn right and pass under the railway bridge.

After 7 kilometers from this place, near the fork, there is a bus stop, near which you should turn right along the road leading to the Oka, and after 1 kilometer from the beginning of the branch, turn left. Starting from this place, a rolled field road leads directly to the river, and then you need to go along the riverbed. The Oka River itself will lead to the career.
