Chernigov Val (Detynets) and its monuments
Gorodskoy Val – it is from this object that you should start to consider the main sights of Chernihiv. The description of the child is found in the Tale of Bygone Years. It is he who is the oldest part of the ancient capital of the Chernihiv-Seversky Principality.
Today, the contour of the Chernihiv rampart is decorated with 12 cast-iron cannons cast in the 17th-18th centuries. They were allegedly presented to the city by Peter I, as a token of gratitude for the participation of the Chernihiv Cossacks in the Battle of Poltava. By the way, all guests of the city are offered to find the thirteenth cannon on the shaft. But so far no one has been able to do this. The existence of the 13th iron cannon is one of the main urban legends of Chernihiv.
On the shaft you can see two beautiful buildings. The first is the Chernihiv collegium of the beginning of the 18th century, and the second is the so-called Lyzogub's house (17th century). It is also called the house of IvanMazepa. According to legend, the Ukrainian hetman hid countless treasures under the foundation of the building.

The Transfiguration Cathedral is the oldest building in Ukraine
This five-domed temple is one of the oldest places of worship in all of Ukraine. It was founded in 1031. In the interiors of the cathedral, ancient columns, floors and remains of wall frescoes have been preserved. It is here that Prince Igor, who was sung in the famous Tale of Igor's Campaign, was buried.
Some historians have suggested that the masters who worked on this Chernihiv temple and St. Sophia of Kyiv were from the same artel. The dimensions of the building are quite large: 18 by 27 meters. The temple sways on six pillars and has three apses. The facades of the cathedral are decorated with beautiful brickwork and pilasters.
Two side towers of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior were built much later, in the 18th century.
Boldino mountains and their sights
Boldiny mountains is one of the urban areas of Chernihiv. Here is the Trinity-Ilyinsky Monastery, which was founded in 1069 by Anthony of the Caves. In 1775 a tall building was erected.a four-tiered bell tower (height - 58 meters), which today is the dominant feature of this area of the city.

This underground monastery was founded by Anthony Pechersky in the 11th century and continued to develop until the end of the 18th century. It consists of four tiers, two of which have not been explored. The total length of the entire complex is 350 meters.
In the Anthony caves, tourists can see several unique underground churches. The most famous of them is the temple of Theodosius of Totemsky. The church is made in the Ukrainian baroque style and is decorated with arches, pilasters and semi-columns. Its height reaches 8.5 meters, it is the largest underground church in Ukraine.

So, the puppet theater named after O. Dovzhenko has been operating on Pobedy Avenue for decades. During this time, over a thousand shows, concerts and various promotions have been staged here.

A grandiose classicist palace, an outbuilding with a tower, the Glinka pavilion and a picturesque park around the estate have survived to this day.
