Riga and Vilnius are large B altic cities in Latvia and Lithuania, somewhat similar to each other.

Riga is more loved by tourists, it is considered a landmark city in Europe. The old part of the city is an architectural masterpiece.

Vilnius is not so elegant, but it has its own charm. It is not for nothing that a whole series of books by the writer Max Fry “Tales of Old Vilnius” is dedicated to him. For more than a decade, fans have been coming to feel the atmosphere of the streets of this city so familiar to them from the pages.

But rather than comparing two beautiful cities, it's better to choose a route that captures both one and the second. You can come up with a lot of options, because the distance from Riga to Vilnius is only about 300 km. You can choose to travel by car, bus, train or plane. Experienced travelers can hitchhike or even cycle. Each option has itsbenefits.

Airplane

Despite the short distance, it is possible to get from Vilnius to Riga and back by plane. The flight will last less than an hour, only 50 minutes. Of course, you should always allow time for check-in, boarding and baggage claim. Typically, these routes run about five flights a day, you can easily choose the right time. The cost of the flight depends on the chosen time, but the average ticket price fluctuates around 50 euros. The airport in Riga is located just 10 km from the central square of the city. You can get there by taxi or by bus number 22. From Vilnius airport you can get to the center by minibuses number 1 and 2, the distance is only 7 km.

Bus

The most popular way for tourists. A bus ticket will cost about 10-15 euros. Many cringe at the mere thought of the bus, but in vain. Each bus on the Riga-Vilnius route is ready to provide the passenger with maximum comfort. They are very modern, equipped with comfortable seating, air conditioning and even free wireless internet. The road will take about 4 hours, which is nonsense for a Russian tourist, in comparison with the scale of Russia.

Car

It will not be difficult to get from Vilnius to Riga and vice versa by car. There are no toll sections between them, the track is good and comfortable. The journey will take about 2.5-3 hours. The main thing is to be careful and attentive while driving.

Railway

Unfortunately, there is no direct railway connection between Riga and Vilnius. But if there is a desire and time,you can choose your own route with transfers.

You can't say that this or that way of transportation is better or worse, because everyone's tastes and needs are different. Everyone will be able to choose for themselves the right road between these two beautiful cities.
