General information
There are two railway stations in Kazan: Kazan-1 (Kazan-Passenger), Kazan-2 (Vosstanie-Passenger). The first (main) station is located on the Station Square. There are also three bus stations in the city: "Central", "South" and "Vostochny".
First of all, let's present in more detail the main transport hub - Kazan-1 railway station.
Description of the railway station
Through Kazan-1 railway stationthousands of people leave and arrive, and tons of cargo are transported in almost all directions of the territory of the Russian Federation.
The Kazan station is served by 36 pairs of long-distance trains. Thirteen of them are cars of local formation. Suburban electric trains and rail buses (diesel trains) departing east and west from the respective dead-end platforms also pass here. In total, the station has 15 tracks, several platforms and an uncovered overpass.
In total, more than 8 million passengers a year are served by Kazan Station (address - Privokzalnaya Square, 1). Its territory is fenced, and the entrance to the station is available only for passengers with tickets and those who are seeing them off. This is strictly controlled. All types of urban public transport pass through Privokzalnaya Square, except for the metro.
A huge network of railway lines stretches throughout Russia through this station, covering the Central region, the South, the Volga region, Siberia, the Far East.
Kazan railway station is located at a convenient location. Buses of many city routes run through Station Square. They deliver passengers to all parts of the city without transfers.
History of the station
The train station has a very convenient location. It is located in the very historical center of Kazan. In just 10 minutes you can walk to the magnificent complex - the Kazan Kremlin - the most important historical landmark of the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. There is,Of course, the Kazan administration plans to move the railway station to another area - to Vorovsky Street, to unload the city center. But this is still in the long-term plans.
The railway station was built in 1893, simultaneously with the laying of the first railway tracks. There is a version that the red building of the station, which is still functioning perfectly, was designed by Kazan architect Heinrich Bernardovich Rush. But there is no evidence of this fact, since there are no written confirmations.
All stations in Kazan have a rather interesting history. After the fire that occurred in 1992, only the foundation and walls remained of the red building of the main station. It was restored again, and Kazan again welcomes its guests in a renovated building. It should be noted that two beautiful white marble leopards guard the entrance to the building itself. And they are amazingly graceful and beautiful cats.
Suburban Station
Next to the old red railway station is the building of the suburban railway station, renovated in 2005, for the millennium of the city of Kazan. From the old building after the reconstruction, only a mosaic panel, placed on one of the walls, has been preserved. It represents the image of a girl in a beautiful national Tatar attire.
Turntiles are installed in the interior, thanks to which you can’t just get on the platform, only with tickets. Electric trains (suburban) can travel in western and eastern directions, including reaching neighboring regions and republics (Chuvashia,Kirov region, Mari El).
Kazan (railway station) – Airport (and back) is a relatively new route with a comfortable, modern high-speed train.
Airport
Kazan Airport is a modern (international) federal airport. It is located near the village of Stolbishche, 26 kilometers (south-east) from the capital. Serves flights throughout Russia, neighboring countries, as well as to the UAE, Turkey, Thailand, Finland, Spain, Greece and other countries. Its passenger traffic is about 2 million people a year. Kazan Airport is the first airport in Russia to be awarded 4-star status.
Bus stations
Kazan railway stations meet all modern requirements for passenger service.
The Central Bus Station of Kazan (Devyataeva Street), located 2.5 km from the central part of the city, was built in 1964. Over the years, the geography of flights has expanded, and the need to create a large number of new routes has grown. The city grew, and it became clear that there was a need to modernize the station.
Today, the bus station "Central" is a modern complex, consisting of three floors. There is a spacious waiting room, conveniently located ticket offices. The building is equipped with all necessary facilities.
The Yuzhny bus station, located on the Orenburg tract (8.5 km from the center), is also the largest in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. It was built relatively recently. Already today you can travel from here to 44 intercity and regional destinations, mostly to the south (hence the name).
