You must agree that the Oktyabrskaya metro station is well known not only to Muscovites, but also to guests of the Russian capital. Why? Well, of course, thanks to the excellent location, because at the top there are important objects of the cultural life of Moscow, for example, the Central House of Artists, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Donskoy Monastery, the park named after. Gorky. Although it should be noted that the station itself is quite interesting both historically and architecturally.
Section 1. "October". Underground. General Description
This station is located in the Moscow metro system on the famous Koltsevaya Line. On one side of it is "Dobryninskaya", and on the other - "Park of Culture". Oktyabrskaya metro station is located in the Yakimanka district. It has three arches and is located at a depth of 40 meters underground, which automatically makes it an object of deep foundation. From the center of the hall you can transfer to the station of the same name, located onKaluga-Rizhskaya line. From the lobby, passengers exit to Leninsky Prospekt, Krymsky Val and Kaluzhskaya Square.
This convenient transportation hub was opened in 1950. Its restoration was carried out in 2010. In the course of the work, new escalators, ticket offices, turnstiles were installed, as well as the lobby was redesigned, while the appearance of the station underwent significant changes. In honor of this event, on November 15, 2010, holiday tickets with an original design, valid for 2 trips, could be purchased at the box office of the Circle Line.

Its original name was "Kaluzhskaya", after the same name of the nearby square. In 1921, the square was given a new name "Oktyabrskaya", and only on June 6, 1961 the station itself was renamed. Currently, the square is again called "Kaluga", but the station has the same name - "Oktyabrskaya".
The interior design, invented by L. Polyakov, is dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. It should be noted that the theme of victory was used in the construction of other metro stations, but only L. Polyakov was able to recreate the temple style. Rows of torches lead to the apse depicting the altar. It itself is made in blue, embodying the bright future of the Soviet people. The apse is closed by a metal fence made in the Empire style.
According to experts, this metro station is the first, the architecture of which is so reminiscent of samplestemple architecture of the West and at the same time the basilicas of early Christianity.

The ground pavilion is made in the form of a grandiose triumphal arch, which is decorated on the outside with bas-reliefs of women and men dressed in the uniform of the Soviet Army. The figures are illuminated by lamps located on the columns.
In 1990, the ground station lobby was built into the building of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. The pylons are lined with gray marble. They are decorated with lamps in the form of torches. They were made by A. I. Damassky from anodized aluminum. The track walls are lined with light yellow ceramic tiles and decorated with wreath tiles. The floor is covered with granite in two colors: gray and red. The central hall is decorated around the perimeter with a patterned insert of alternating stripes of light and dark marble.
Halls with ticket offices and escalators are decorated with bas-reliefs made by GI Motovilov. These bas-reliefs depict armed warriors, battle banners and girls personifying Glory. The pylons also have medallions depicting Soviet soldiers.
Agree, Moscow still knows how to surprise us! The Oktyabrskaya metro station is yet another confirmation of this.
