From the history of the city
The city of Pavlovsk was founded in the early 18th century. by the great emperor Peter I. By his order, merchants from Azov and Taganrog were resettled here, thanks to whom this place became an important trading center. Initially, Pavlovsk played the role of a strategically important military shipyard and fortress. It is important to note that in the first period of the existence of the settlement, the prisoners of war captured by the Petrine army in the Battle of Poltava were engaged in its arrangement. In 1711, Pavlovsk received the status of a city. This place became the birthplace of the great Russian fleet. It was here, at the Pavlovsk shipyard, that ships were built that became the backbone of the imperial army. In addition, a foundry and cannon factories were founded in the city. Cannons, cannonballs and bells were cast within their walls. Exactlyso in the 18th century the city was called "small St. Petersburg". Over time, a garment factory also appeared here.

And this is truly a unique place! In the middle of the steppe there is a whole green island with amazingly rich flora. Here you can see mighty oaks that are over 150 years old! In addition, there are maples, lindens, hazels in the Shipovaya Oakwood. The fauna of this forest will also surprise travelers with its diversity. Martens, deer, foxes, wild boars, roe deer live in the oak forest.
The most famous sight of the forest is the Chernav springs, which the locals call the “Seven Wells”. Their waters contain a small amount of silver and are considered healing.

The real hallmark of Pavlovsk was the house of the merchant Odintsov. This is the most beautiful old building in the city. On the ground floor there is the Historical Museum, whose employees will tell each visitor the most interesting information about the past of this region.
The building itself, which once belonged to the merchant Odintsov, fits perfectly into the architectural ensemble of the city. In addition, a unique front porch made of cast iron has been preserved here.
Spiritual county school
The county spiritual school in the city was founded inthe first half of the 19th century Children of local priests studied here. The building of the school was erected according to the project of the famous architect A. F. Shchedrin. It is an excellent example of the era of classicism.

Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God

Transfiguration Cathedral
In 1712, on the site of the modern Transfiguration Cathedral, a church was erected, named after Peter and Paul. It received its current name 12 years later.
