The Sea of Galilee is the biblical name for the unique Lake Kinneret, located in Israel. This body of water is not called the sea because of its size or
particularly s alty water as well because of its historical significance. According to Christian chronicles, it was on these shores that Christ began to preach, it was from the cities located earlier on these shores that most of his disciples and followers came from. It was the Sea of Galilee that became the first place where Jesus showed miracles to the world. This reservoir is no less important for the Jews - the birthplace of the Talmud - Tiberias is located here.
According to doctors, the Sea of Galilee is interesting for its sulfuric hot springs. Water spouting from underground has a weak radioactive background and contains a high percentage of sulfur, which helps in the treatment of many skin diseases, improves the condition of the nervous system and heals
spine.
Geographically, the coast of Lake Kinneret is one of the lowest points on the earth's surface. It is below sea level by about 210 meters. It is difficult to say the exact figure - the water level in the lake strongly depends on the amount of precipitation that fell in the autumn-winterperiod. The length of the coastline also depends on this, and, of course, the depth.
The Sea of Galilee is of great importance for Israel - it is a third of the country's fresh water supply, therefore the amount of water in the lake is the subject of close attention of both the government and ordinary citizens. About 50 species of fish live here, some of them are very rare and are not found anywhere else. It is in this lake that St. Peter's fish is caught, which is offered to be tasted in the surrounding restaurants. Many people say that it is very tasty. If you're visiting Israel anytime soon, be sure to try it, as there has been a recent discussion of a proposal to temporarily ban fishing from the Sea of Galilee in order to restore its population, but as you know, nothing is more permanent than temporary solutions.
The weather in the area of the Sea of Galilee is famous for its unpredictability: the sun had just shone, it was quiet and calm, but suddenly a strong wind comes up, a wild storm breaks out. Only old fishermen who have lived on the coast for years can predict bad weather by one of their noticeable, barely perceptible signs.
This lake has many names: the Sea of Galilee, the Sea of Gennesaret or the Hinneref Sea. Also, this body of water is called Lake Tiberias (sea) or, as already mentioned, Lake Kinneret. It is easy to get confused in such a variety of names, but in fact they all refer to the same body of water. Along its banks there are many attractions that Israel is so famous for. The sea or lake is not so important, historical and cultural monuments, legends are important, and there were witnesses of the events that took place in these places. And there were many events, and, fortunately, there are many holy places where numerous visitors seek. Many of those who have visited this sea-lake speak of the extraordinary state of mind that comes near this place. Even if you do not believe in what is described in the New Testament, it is definitely worth visiting this extraordinary place.
