Many large Russian cities have their own airport. Kostroma is no exception. The city airport is a regional small air transport hub. In addition to civilian airliners, it has helicopters and aircraft of the RF Ministry of Defense.
History of the airport (Kostroma)
Sokerkino Airport has an eventful history. It originates in 1944, when a small airfield was built, which was used for the needs of the national economy. The first passenger aircraft PO-2 landed at the Kostroma site in November 1944. It began to be permanently based at the airfield.
The plane was small and carried only five people, along with crew members. After the modernization of the aircraft, he was able to simultaneously transport not very heavy loads or patients. In 1949, several more aircraft were put into operation.
The vast majority of airfield personnel were military. Since the 1950s, planes have been working on farmland and carrying mail.
Airport development
In 1954, the airport (Kostroma) began to carry outlong-distance flights on AN-2 aircraft. In 1957, MI-1 helicopters began to be used. With their help, forest patrols and sanitary transportation were carried out. Helicopters transported maintenance crews, carried out aerial photography and rescue operations.
The first regular flight from Kostroma to Moscow was launched by the Yak-40 aircraft. In 1975 the airport (Kostroma) was opened for international routes. Flights to Germany have begun. Then turboprop aircraft appeared, ferrying passengers to many cities of the USSR.
In the 1990s, the number of those wishing to fly decreased greatly. The staff has been cut in half. But the airport continued to operate. The main profit came from abroad, where Kostroma helicopters worked. In 2006, the airport acquired the status of a joint stock company. All shares were owned by the state.
New passenger and cargo planes were purchased. They again began transportation to large and resort cities in Russia. In 2010, the airport began to belong to the Kostroma region. The airline continues its development.
Infrastructure
Airport (Kostroma) has one runway. Its length is 1700 meters, width is 50 m. The strip is covered with concrete slabs. The airport has a rather modest infrastructure. This is due to the loss of interest in this air transport hub of Russian carriers. At the airport there are:
- car parking;
- waiting room;
- ATM;
- luxury room;
- roomfor mother and child (all services are paid).
Recently, the airport (Kostroma) has become more comfortable and began to provide all the standard services that are provided for air travel, to provide complete information about all routes. Passengers can go through the necessary pre-flight procedures at the airport building, relax, buy hot meals and fresh newspapers.
There is a medical room, a left-luggage office and a ticket office where you can purchase advance tickets for flights. in the 2000s, the airport terminal was renovated and modernized. Thanks to innovations, waiting for passengers has become more pleasant. For believers, there is a special prayer room in the airport building.
Airport (Kostroma) - the phone number of which can be found on the official website of the company, is the base of the Kostroma State Airlines. It transports passengers not only in the region, but also to other regions of Russia. Flights are carried out by small aircraft - helicopters and airplanes. There is a local flying club on the territory of the airport.
