The capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, is located in a good, one might say, strategic location. Back in the Middle Ages, the Great Silk Road passed through this city, and now air roads leading to Europe, Asian countries, and the CIS republics intersect in the sky above it. Tashkent airports can be called the “Gate of the East”, as they are convenient platforms for various transit routes. In this article, we will briefly characterize the hubs of the capital of Uzbekistan. There are several. They bear simple names: Southern, Eastern and Sergeli.
International hub
Meets foreign travelers arriving in Tashkent, Yuzhny airport. This hub has an ICAO certificate (second category). Many airlines around the world choose Yuzhny as a platform for flights, and the local air carrier Uzbekistan Havo Yullari considers it the main hub airport. The hub was built in the distant seventies, but since then it has been repeatedly modernized according to international standards. The hub receives more than two million passengers every year. All types of vessels of any tonnage are able to land on its lanes. Southern disposesthree terminals: international, transit and serving local flights ("Toshkent-3"). Thus, having arrived here, you can go to the ancient cities of Uzbekistan - to Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara. Passengers get from the board to the galleries of the hub via telescopic ladders. What is especially nice, domestic flights are adjusted to international ones. Passengers should not worry that they will not be on time for their plane to the regional center of the republic.
International hub services
It is unlikely that all airports in Tashkent are equipped like the South one. The last renovation in the main terminal took place in 2001. Now there are all the services necessary for a hub of this level. Passengers can relax in the lounges. Business and VIP lounges are located in the right wing of the building. There are duty-free shops, currency exchange offices, cafeterias, bars and restaurants, playgrounds. There is a hotel for passengers departing on early flights. At the 24-hour parking, you can rent a car for long-term storage. In the main hall of the arrivals hall, you will see many tourist offices. You can immediately purchase a ticket to holiday homes, boarding houses and sanatoriums in Uzbekistan or book an excursion to the sights of the republic.
Where is the international airport located
Tashkent has long included Yuzhny within the city limits. Therefore, there is no need for special shuttles. You can get to the main airport of the country both by regular buses and fixed-route taxis. ToUnfortunately, the metro line has not yet reached the Yuzhny. The nearest metro stations are Oybek and Khalklar Dustligi. Most minibuses and buses go to housing estates or to various metro stops. To get to the Caravan Bazaar, you need to take bus number 94. To the Sergeli massif, number forty and minibus number 89 follow. Taxi drivers are on duty around the clock at the arrival hall. Payment is negotiable. In fact, transportation by such transport in Tashkent is cheap, but a foreigner may be charged an inflated price.
Reconstruction plans for the South
From this airport there are regular flights to major metropolitan areas of the world. From here you can get to New York, Kyiv, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities near and far abroad. The capacity of the main terminal is more than a thousand passengers per hour. The airline "Uzbekistan Airways" considers this airport to be its native "nest". In conclusion, it must be said that the leadership of the hub cherishes big plans. Now the reconstruction of terminals, lanes, equipment is being carried out in stages. Shortcomings are eliminated (such as, for example, an insufficient number of passport control windows, which causes queues). It is planned that the international hub will decorate Tashkent. The airport, whose photo already looks impressive, should soon turn into a platform for transcontinental ships.
Sergeli
And what about other airports in Tashkent? Sergeli is located in the suburbs of the capital of Uzbekistan. This is the oldest airport in Tashkent. It was founded in the fiftieslast century. Previously, Po-2 and Yak-18 landed here. But with the construction of the South Sergeli did not become abandoned. In 2010, the lanes were reconstructed here. The airport operates exclusively for local air traffic. Also, Mi-8 technical helicopters and An-2 aircraft, which belong to the Selkhozaviaraboty company, are based here. The hub is used as a training base for Uzbekistan Airways pilots.
Oriental
This Tashkent airport is a joint base for civil, military and experimental aviation. It also accepts international flights - customs and border control is carried out there. Since 2007, it has been owned by the Uzbekistan Havo Yullari airline. This hub is capable of receiving only light aircraft, up to An-22, An-124 and Il-76, as well as helicopters. Cargo boards also land here. Military unit 23229 is based in Vostochny. Therefore, one can often observe the launch of military aircraft. The hub also operates a flight test station of the GAO TAPOiCH, which carries out test flights of the Il-114-100. If we talk about Tashkent airports, then it was from Vostochny that Soviet soldiers were transferred to the war in Afghanistan. This hub is located in the Tashkent region, in the Kibray region.
