In every country there is a place where the wonders of nature and landscape architecture are collected. In Belarus - this is a botanical garden in Minsk, it is the largest center in its state for the conservation of plant biodiversity. The crops shown are considered rare.

A Brief History

The Botanical Garden in Minsk is a leading scientific center in the field of plant introduction and ecology, physiology and molecular biology. It contains more than ten thousand different plants: both ornamental and household.

Its official name is the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. It has existed for eighty-two years, for all the time of its activity it has constantly expanded the boundaries and the list of represented plants. The Botanical Garden in Minsk in 1932 occupied an area of more than ninety hectares, and at present it is about one hundred and fifty-three hectares. It is located in a pine forest. Visitors always note the he althy atmosphere in thislocation.

Twenty-eight years after the founding of the garden, the center was given the status of a research institute of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR.

The Botanical Garden in Minsk invites visitors to look at plants from different places on the planet. There are more than two thousand species of tropical and subtropical cultures. These are bamboo and palm trees, oranges and agave, eucalyptus and bottle tree of Madagascar, cypresses and evergreen jasmine. Many of these plants are placed in greenhouses. This approach allows the garden not to close in winter. The greenhouse has been open to visitors since 2007. For seven years now, unusual and rare cultures have delighted everyone with their appearance.

Many guests of the capital of Belarus consider it their duty to visit this popular center of exotic nature. Especially often people come to look at roses in the botanical garden of Minsk. The CBS collection contains more than three hundred and twenty types of roses: tea and polyanthus, Chinese and hybrid tea.

The most popular place for Belarusians is the botanical garden in Minsk. 2014 gave visitors an unforgettable rose festival. It was attended by a huge number of guests from neighboring countries. The program of the holiday included a two-hour tour of the rose garden. Also, the leading specialist of the Central Botanical Garden G. F. Zhuravkin held a master class on caring for roses. The celebration was decorated with an animated show of live sculptures and flower hats. A master class was held for the visitors by representatives of Vivasan. At the consultation, they talked about the application and use of flower oils in cosmetology. There was an archery attraction and a pony ride with the Flower Fairy for children.

Entrance to the botanical garden is paid, for adult visitors a ticket costs twenty thousand Belarusian rubles, for pensioners, schoolchildren or students - ten thousand. To get into the landscape zone, you will have to pay thirty thousand and fifteen thousand, respectively. The ticket price for entering the greenhouse is the same for everyone - fifteen thousand Belarusian rubles.

People call the Central Botanical Garden "Botanica", locals consider it an open-air museum of living plants. Residents of Minsk often spend their weekends in a green corner. Communication between man and plants gives new strength.

Some scientists confidently state that flora can influence the general condition of people. Cactus takes away negative energy, tradescantia improves well-being and mood, and geranium freshens the air.

Some interesting facts

Plants can also help a person predict the weather. For example, the yellow acacia is a unique natural barometer; on the eve of rain, it releases a large amount of nectar and a pleasant strong aroma. Also, according to the appearance of gerberas, experts can determine whether the weather will be sunny or cloudy.

Another interesting fact: some plants are used in cooking. From one type of exotic orchid, the well-known vanilla is obtained. In ancient times, entire ships with people went in search of this flower. Just ten years ago, we althy Belarusians were willing to pay huge sums of money fororchids, since there were none at all in the state. Now the flowers are in the Central Botanical Garden, everyone can come and admire them. In Belarus, they learned how to grow orchids in flasks.

Color collections

Employees of the Minsk Botanical Garden help new crops brought from different parts of the world to acclimatize in local conditions. For this, expeditions are organized to various climatic zones (for example, to the Carpathians or the Urals). Now there are about 250 species of perennials from the Caucasus, Southern Europe and Africa, the Pamirs.

Also in the garden there are collections of flowers familiar to the capital's residents. New species of dahlias and lilies are bred in the garden. There are especially many varieties of tulips (500) and peonies (300). The workers take great care of the plants and carry out numerous studies.

Future plans

Every year, reconstruction work is carried out in the botanical garden in Minsk. Modern greenhouses have already been rebuilt, the old ones are always being repaired. The administration of the nature center wants to replace the irrigation system of the garden. Also completely change the structure of the tracks and build more new greenhouses. Visitors really liked the idea of creating sections of individual countries, the administration plans to develop several new mini-territories of European states.

There is an exposition greenhouse in the Minsk Botanical Garden, it opened seven years ago. For a long time it filledcovers an area of more than 1200 square meters. The room is divided into separate zones, each has its own temperature regime and is designed for different plants.

Rich Fund

Currently, the main task of the Central Botanical Garden of Minsk is to preserve all the richness of the presented nature. This fund has been building up over the years. The garden is undergoing renovations that will last for several more years.

The nature center cleans up lakes that haven't been cleaned since the 1960s. The garden administration wants to plant new shrubs and trees. After all, plants have already lived here since the opening of the center and the post-war period. A unique place, where a huge number of plants are collected, is always very popular among residents of the whole country and guests of the state.
