Over time, the bird was badly affected by precipitation and other adverse factors. At the beginning of the last century, one of the townspeople, traveling through Italy, bought a statue of a girl with an umbrella and presented it to the city. It was covered with bright enamel and became a real decoration of the park. The figure was placed in the center of the fountain. But during the war, this pedestal was lost, and during the restoration work, it was decided to recreate the historical appearance. And now the girl with the umbrella is again standing under the jets of water.

Temple

In the park there is a functioning temple - Trinity Cathedral. The first church was built in that place in the 16th century. It is known for certain that False Dmitry II was buried in it. But this building has not survived to this day. The modern temple was founded in 1786, the author of the project was the architect I. D. Yasnygin. The chapel was consecrated in 1819

A distinctive feature of the structure is a 20-meter dome, which was erected without internal supports. A 70-meter bell tower rises above the temple. Initially, it was separate from the church, but in 1912 both buildings were merged into a single ensemble.

A plaque hangs on the walls of the temple, announcing that on May 14, 1895, John of Kronstadt, the famous miracle worker of the earth, celebrated the liturgy hereRussian.

Believers come to the church to bow to the miraculous list of the Mother of God of Kaluga.

Monuments in the park

To the right of the temple you can see a monument to the patron saint of Kaluga, Blessed Lawrence. It was installed in honor of the 500th anniversary of the death of the elder. According to legend, in 1512, by the power of his prayer, he helped Prince Simeon and his retinue to defeat the Agarians - the Crimean Tatars who made raids. Three centuries later, the Kaluga militia went into battle with Napoleon, carrying banners, on which was the image of an old man.

To the left of the church in 2014, a monument was erected to another saint - the Monk Hieromartyr Kuksha, who enlightened the Vyatichi tribes.

Walking through the park, you can see the bust of Nicholas II. The emperor visited these places at the beginning of the last century at a review of troops serving in the Japanese war.

Historic site

The park of culture and recreation in Kaluga is located on a historically significant place for the city. In the 16th century, on the high bank of the Oka, between two deep ravines, Berezuisky and Gorodetsky, the Kremlin towered. From 12 towers of a wooden building, a patrol was conducted. More than once the enemies wanted to pass to Moscow, bypassing Kaluga. But every time they met a fierce rebuff. Unfortunately, wooden buildings that died in a fire three centuries ago have not survived to this day. But, thanks to the surviving documents and archaeological excavations, it is known for certain that the territory of the fortress was much larger than the modern park.

Only toAt the end of the 19th century, the authorities decided to lay the square. Beautiful alleys arose along which noble citizens walked. And the square itself was named after the Grand Duke Vladimir Mikhailovich Romanov, who visited these parts. After the revolution, it was decided to leave and expand the park. But rename it.

Since then, it has been a favorite vacation spot for citizens of all classes.

Observation deck

In the Middle Ages, surveillance from the Kremlin towers was carried out around the clock so that the enemy would not pass to Moscow. Now there is no need for this. In place of the old watchtowers, there is an observation deck with a stunning view of Kaluga, the Oka, the bridge across the river.

The park is famous for its green spaces. The dendrological value of the recreation area is noted by experts. The oldest tree known to every city dweller is a 700-year-old oak that has seen many battles and fires and has survived to this day. No less famous is the linden alley, which was founded in 1895. There are other trees: sharp-leaved maples, silver spruces, firs, Weymouth pines and other varieties of trees and shrubs.
