History of the name of the metro station "Taganskaya"
In 2010, the capital of Russia celebrated a special anniversary - the 75th anniversary of the metropolitan metro. After the construction of the circle metro line was completed in the 1950s, its first section was put into operation. Its total length was only 6.4 km, and it consisted of 6 stations, including the Taganskaya metro station.
Many are familiar with the songs that sing about the Taganka prison, which was located on the square of the same name. And what was long before the theater and metro station appeared here?
Moscow, Taganskaya Square, is no less famous place than the Republic Square in Paris. The name "Taganka" comes from the old road that led from Moscow through the Taganka Gates. There is such a point of view that this name comes from the old Russian word "tagan". This was the name of the craft of the majority of the people living in the area, who made iron tripod stands on which pots and cauldrons were placed for cooking. Streltsy troops carried such tagans with them during their campaigns.
Metro Taganskaya today
Today the lobby of thisstation goes to the square (Taganskaya), two escalator tunnels are separated by an intermediate hall, on the dome of which there is a panel by the artist A. K. Shiryaev "Salute of Victory". In the station hall of the Taganskaya metro station there are majolica sculptures reflecting various episodes of the Second World War, and the pylons of the hall are lined with marble.
It is planned that by 2025 the total length of all metro lines in the capital will be at least 650 km. According to the General Plan, the metro network will be combined into a common system of mini, light and express metro and will have common transport hubs with the railway, as well as new types of rail transport.
