The resort is located on the western outskirts of the province of Lapland (Municipality of Kolari). At the very foot of the hill, on its two opposite sides, there are villages. In the north it is Akaslompolo and in the south it is Ylläsjärvi. They are connected by a 11 km long road passing around the mountain. Both localities receive a good share of tourism income.

Ski slopes

In Ylläs, the ski season is quite long - from the end of November toearly March.
Ylläs is one of the most diverse resorts in Finland. Here you can find slopes for absolutely all types of skiing, including slalom, snowboarding, freeride and telemark. There are trails of varying difficulty, both for beginners and experienced skiers. There are also children's areas. For lovers of the exotic, there are slopes with untouched snow, including wooded and open ones.
It should also be noted that for beginner skiers there are two schools offering group and individual lessons in snowboarding, alpine skiing and telemark skiing.
Accommodation
Ylläs offers a variety of accommodation options. You can stay here both in a high-class hotel and in one of the secluded cottages of Ylläs. Finland is a truly fabulous country, and the best options for relaxing in the bosom of nature are houses in small villages. A common type of accommodation are twin cottages, which are divided into two isolated areas. Most of these buildings are located at a distance of no more than 2.5 km from the ski slopes. A special Ski Bus runs to the mountain.
It should be noted that despite the huge size of the resort (it can simultaneously accommodate 23,000 vacationers) and its not very crowded, it is best to book hotel rooms and cottages in advance.
