"Adler" - an airport that invites you to a fairy tale

Who among us doesn't dream of going south during a summer vacation to show off a beautiful even tan and stock up on impressions for the year ahead?! Despite the availability of foreign resorts in recent years, many Russians still prefer to relax in the Krasnodar Territory. There is not only the turquoise sea and exotic plants. There are a million attractions. One of them can safely be called "Adler". The airport that will be the first to open its arms to you and invite you to a southern fairy tale.

How it all began

Back in 1941, one of the leading Sochi engineers I. G. Shevkunenko was given a special task - to build an airfield in Adler as soon as possible. Wartime dictated its conditions. And on July 24, the future Adler received the first aircraft. But the birthday of the airport is considered September 1, when a combat crew landed on its airfield.

The military airfield was far from the handsome man that meets us today. Adler is an airport that began its full-fledged existence only in 1956. It was then that the first runway and air terminal were built.

As the years passed, the airport developed. In 1981, he received international status. Prague, Budapest, Bratislava - air routes have firmly connected the Sochi airport with these and other European cities.

Today, Adler is the second largest airport among all air terminals in the Southern District of Russia. In terms of throughput, it is in 9th place, behind such megacities as Moscow, St. Petersburg and several other large cities of the country. The complex has 2 runways for takeoff and landing, the length of which is more than 4 km. Adler can handle 500 passengers per hour from international flights and up to 2,000 people on domestic airlines. It serves not only the largest resort in Russia, but also Abkhazia, Tuapse.

The Basel Aero company, to which the airport belongs, promises that it will continue the reconstruction of the flight complex, and in the near future Adler will be able to receive up to 10 million passengers during the year.

Infrastructure

It should be taken into account that the flight complex is quite far from the city of Sochi. They are separated by almost 30 km. If you are in the Black Sea resort for the first time and you need the Adler airport, the map will help you navigate the area. Do not forget that it will take about an hour and a half to get from the city center by public transport. Therefore, it is advisable to leave the hotel in advance.
