It's listed as the birthplace of the Beatles in the Music Encyclopedia, as the capital of pop music in the Guinness Book of Records…Liverpool's sights are worth seeing before the city ceases to be Europe's cultural capital forever.
Liverpool World Heritage
Modern Liverpool (UK) is an important commercial metropolis, university and financial center, and a key site for Catholic and Anglican churches.
Liverpool is a former European capital of culture and a modern football center. It's also home to a quartet of Liverpool bugs who became mega-famous in the sixties, and an architectural haven for those looking to find something lost in time.
The city has benefited from two events in its history: the industrial revolution and the slave trade. At the end of the 17th century, every fourth ship leaving the port of Liverpool was involved in the slave trade, and the company of the same name was involved in this sad operation for almost three centuries.
Over the centuries, Liverpool has developed as a trading and port city. Thanks to commerce with China, it is now the center of the oldestChinese communities in Europe. Take a moment to look at Chinatown, and you can find yourself in a small area of the Middle Kingdom, with its restaurants and eateries.
Walking through the streets of Liverpool, you can sometimes feel like you're transported back centuries into the past. No wonder its streets as scenery are often used by film companies. The city is a filming location for films set in the distant past.
City Museum will tell tourists about films shot in Liverpool. Some titles may evoke this, such as "Captain America" or "Harry Potter".
Following the Beatles
Liverpool is the birthplace of the most famous group. Its members were born here, met and played together as a team. And from here they went to conquer the world.
The Cavern Club is where the Beatles made their debut. The band started playing here in 1961 and over time began to attract crowds of fans and arrange concerts in the evenings. Soon, the small bulky basement could no longer accommodate all the fans of the Liverpool four (the queue of those who wanted to listen to them even blocked Matthew Street).
You should also visit The Beatles Story museum dedicated to the famous band. Here you can plunge into their atmosphere and imagine milestones in the history of musicians. For example, look at the white room of John Lennon and his piano, on which he composed Imagine. Or consider his famous glasses.
Besides, there are posters on displaycostumes and a host of other musician memorabilia - even George Harrison's first guitar.
There is an interesting store nearby for fans of the Liverpool Beetles. It sells a lot of souvenirs:
- plates;
- t-shirts;
- cups;
- magnets;
- playing cards;
- bookmarks.
Worth a stroll to the houses where Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon lived.
Three Graces
The Pierce Island area is home to the city's traditional sights - the gigantic harbour, also known as the "Three Graces" Cunard (Italian-style office building 1914-1917), Port of Liverpool (Baroque house 1908-1911 years) and the landmark of Liverpool - the so-called Royal Building. This majestic building was built between 1908 and 1911 and symbolizes the former might of the empire.
This is perhaps the most famous building in the city - the first skyscraper in the UK, built by architect Karl Bartels Bernard. At the top of its two towers are six-meter mythical birds, looking in different directions. Legend has it that these birds had an important purpose: one is watching the townspeople, and the other is watching the sailors who sail to Liverpool. Each tower has a clock with a diameter of 8 m. By the way, this is the largest electronically controlled clock in the UK. The height of the Royal Liver Building is 90 meters (13 floors).
Museums and galleries
BThe National Gallery of Northern England has an impressive collection of art from the Middle Ages to the present (Rembrandt, Turner, Monet, Rossetti, Hockney). Here you can see amazing combinations of masterpieces by Rodin, Picasso, Matisse and Degas with video installations and contemporary paintings. As for the number of galleries and museums, Liverpool gives the championship only to London.
When visiting the sights of Liverpool, do not forget about the visit to the Great Maritime Museum, which will tell about transatlantic ships and military operations related to the historical events of the city. The Tate Museum of Contemporary Art is also worth a look.
Walker Art Gallery
The Walker Art Gallery boasts a rich collection of Italian, Flemish and French masters from the 14th century to the present day.
Here you will see masterpieces by Rubens, Rembrandt and Rodin. It exhibits works of English painting and sculpture of the 18th-20th centuries. It is unparalleled and houses the work of Gainsborough, Hogarth and Moore. Every year, the most important show of contemporary British art - the exhibition "John and Peter Moore" is held here.
Anfield
Among the sights of Liverpool is to visit the famous Anfield - the home of the main English football team. Built in 1884, the football center holds up to 45,362 spectators, although the record attendance was 61,905.
The stadium has an area of more than eight thousand square meters and is coveredgrass. The fact is that Liverpool is one of the best clubs in the Premier League. He won the national title 18 times.
Today the capacity of the facility is 44,742 seats.
The club is famous for its traditions based on the history of previous generations. In front of the main entrance, you can find a statue of the famous Reds coach Bill Shankly here.
Anfield Stadium Museum
Despite its small size, the Liverpool Footballers Museum is one of the most interesting club museums in England. In it you can look at the achievements of the players, their victories (European cups). In the museum, you will also be able to feel two huge tragedies in modern history: the incident at Hillsborough Stadium, where 96 LFC fans died, and the tragedy at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels.
Liverpool Club
The Liverpool club is located at the Anfield stadium, at the main entrance from the side of W alton Broke Road. Inside you can find a huge selection of match and training shirts, including historical ones, and many other gadgets. T-shirts can be printed with your name and any number for an additional fee.
In the stadium, under the famous Kop Stand, there is a club cafe called Boot Room Sports Cafe. Inside, tourists are invited to eat sandwiches, grilled steaks, while enjoying the historical atmosphere.
There are many beautiful buildings around, as well as gardens, parks, museums and other places of recreation. The city is a popular shopping destination, especially with the Liverpool One fashion centre,42 acres. Liverpool will not leave you indifferent!
