Description
This relatively young town is located in the Volkhov district of the Leningrad region, on two banks of the river of the same name. The distance from St. Petersburg is about 140 kilometers. Many, passing through this city, pay attention to the sights of Volkhov.
The well-known route "from the Varangians to the Greeks" passed through the city. And the river on which it stands has long been famous for the rapids through which the Novgorodians sailed their ships, overcoming long distances.

Staraya Ladoga

There is a fortress on its territory, which once served as a haven for ships that could not pass through the rapids of the Volkhov River. Novgorod Kremlin

Yaroslav's Courtyard
On the opposite bank of the river, opposite the walls of the Kremlin, you can see this object, which belongs to the UNESCO world heritage. On this very spot, judging by the chronicles, at the beginning of the 11th century there was a palace built by Yaroslav the Wise. Until todayAlas, this structure has not been preserved. An ancient settlement located on the banks of the river. It was founded by the first representative of the ancient Russian monarchy Rurik. Pedestrian bridge across the Volkhov River
This engineering structure is located in Novgorod on the Volkhov. The first river crossing was built here in 1133. And it stood like that until 1944, until it was destroyed by the Nazi troops. In the early fifties, it was planned to build a road bridge in its place. But the initiative was rejected. The new bridge was built in 1985, it connects the Novgorod Kremlin and Yaroslav's Court.
